A crazy story, lovely drawings, chickens and I was suckered in. The only thing that bugged me was the Dr. Laura bit as it wasn't the big story turning point that I expected.

After having Fetch recently, I decided to return to Calling Dr. Laura, Georges' first major memoir release. It's fascinating to see how much Georges' has grown as a writer in the intervening years. Calling Dr. Laura is about her exploration of family secrets as well as her early adulthood in Portland. She dives deep into failed relationships and queer struggles, and this is a great book for people exploring their sexuality and trying to adapt to adulthood. After Fetch, I do wish this was a bit deeper in terms of self-analysis, but with age comes wisdom and this is a book from a younger Georges. Still a fantastic read with great art!

I go back and forth on how I feel about this memoir. I think I was expecting something more, maybe something more about how the call (or calls) to Dr. Laura effected her decision on what to do about her father. But that seemed like a random event.
