OMG I absolutely loved Nina is Not Ok, this was quite an uncomfortable read at times but what an amazing storyline, I just wanted to mother Nina and give her lots of love and support, I would love there to be a follow up to this story, many thanks to Netgallery and the pu8blishers in accepting my request to read this fabulous story.

This is a book which made me think a lot and I most definitely have a review brewing for when my thoughts have settled.

Words like consent, alcoholism and a bunch of other stuff will be used.

           Honestly I wasn’t sure I would like this book. But it surprised me.
This book is witty, funny and terrible all in the same paragraph. The author has done a brilliant job of keeping a fun, easy to read mood whilst never detracting away from the serious issue that arise within this story.
This book explores issues such as friendship, alcoholism and the fine line between drunk sex and rape. So that may put some people off. However the author has approached these subjects with tact and consideration.

Shappi created a terribly sarcastic MC that I absolutely adored. Yes, Nina could be a horrible, sometimes whiny, b***h, but she’s a teenager going through a difficult situation. I know that I certainly wasn’t a model citizen as a teenager and at times my mother probably would have loved nothing more than to throttle me haha. But I believe that the author has done an amazing job portraying her, and while she might not be the most likeable character, she is one of the realest.
Personally I developed a love / hate relationship with the majority of the characters in this book… Some I just loved and others I just really hated haha. Either way I found all the characters were intriguing and well developed.

I don’t want to go into the story too much and give anything more away. But it is definitely an interesting, well paced story.
You should probably just read it because it’s actually really funny.

The issues the author has raised in this book are very real in todays society. I would definitely recommend this book to everyone!

Nina is defnitely not OK!

I finished this book an hour ago, and I am sitting here still trying to process the roller coaster of emotions this book brought out of me. I felt so much while reading this - contentment, embarrassment, anger, laughter, and the ending brought tears out of my eyes, both happy and sad at the same time. There has only been one other book that made me sob the way this one did (here's looking at you Marley & Me!) 

I always say that any book that can produce these types of emotions while reading is a great book. The author, Shappi Khorsandi, introduced me to the world of Nina being not OK, grabbed me and wouldn't let go. Anytime I had to step away from the book I would wonder what was coming next. When it seemed like the story was over, another speed bump would occur. 

Nina's story starts right off the bat with an event that propels Nina into a downward spiral. She was already heading there, but this guarantees her free fall. We are invited into her world where we all can see her alcoholism, and we await for the rock bottom to hit for her to realize it as well. We see how her family (mom, stepdad and stepsister) react to each event that occurs, and how her friends and schoolmates act as well. Whenever you think Nina's story can't get worse, somehow it does and it is heartbreaking to read. 

I highly recommend this book for all my adult friends - I love that in the Acknowledgements the author says that 2 people are not allowed to read this book until they are 53 (kids??) But be warned - this book is raw. It is gritty. It will make you feel every emotion under the sun. And it is amazing.
