Not at all what I was expecting it to be. So much better in so many ways. 

My only complaint is that there are too many chapters devoted to the son's perspective. He doesn't fit in the story the way the other characters do. There were other adult characters who's stories and viewpoints could have been explored more thoroughly. Of all the characters who only got one chapter of their own, his getting multiple chapters messed with the flow of the story. This is a grown up book about grown ups. Devoting multiple chapters to the youngest person made no sense.
