The woods are lovely, dark and deep,

Excerpt from the poem The Waking by Theodore Roethke

This book is a treasure that I plan to keep for a long while. Not every poem will resonate with everyone of course. I enjoyed that the author took time to explain each poem and keep takeaways from the poems as well. I remember reading somewhere that you should keep a book of poems meaningful to you for different seasons of life: trauma, hope, travel, diversity, grief, depression, and much much more. Such an elegant anthology of poetry, sure to stir anyone's soul with emotions hitherto unwritten. I also learned about an alternative to Alcoholics Anonymous called Self-Management and Recovery Training (SMART), which I had not heard of before.

Some of the poems that struck me most were:

- Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening by Robert Frost

- Waiting for the Barbarians by Constantine Cavafy

- Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night by Dylan Thomas

If you have not experienced the otherworldly enchantment that is Dylan Thomas reading Do Not Go Gentle, then make haste and look it up on Youtube.
