I really enjoyed this one! There were some meandering moments, and repetitive dialogue, but the art is beautiful and I love the lesser-known folktale adaptation. Looking forward to the next installment!

Story Eater

A story in which a ship has a gender but its captain does not. Also, the pronoun they refers to two or more people, not one. There are gender neutral pronouns in existence that are singular. Perhaps the writing world should adopt one. Here's a great article about this using one example of a gender-neutral singular pronoun.

The story is a bit disjointed. While the artwork is beautiful, sometimes the story does not match up with it because the art does not imply a feeling or action well enough. I did not feel there was enough of a connection to any of the other characters except Sibylla and her sister-in-law. Despite being only the first part, it still left some unanswered questions and vagaries that put the reader at a disadvantage in the story. 

There is some tell that this is a retelling of a Scottish folktale. I am disappointed with it, as it would not be equally reciprocal to so with the folklore of other cultures. Overall, started out pretty good, but as I got deeper into the story and its background meaning and origin, I will say it is not enjoyable.
