To be in love in high school...it's such a dangerous game

3.5 stars - one thing Ashley Woodfolk is gonna do is yank emotion out of you. This being in verse was a choice, especially bcs it was in first and second person, and in the beginning, I couldn't really get in the story bcs the timeline confused me. This impacts how the story resonates (imo) but it does not take away from the author's beautiful writing and beautiful metaphors. Also, the relationship/friendship is kinda toxic... but maybe that was the intention bcs of the possible eventual character development. I do recommend this book and can't wait for another Ashley Woodfolk book

This was a great exploration of relationship--tender and aching and thought-provoking all at once.

to do with the book. i just always find poetry as 3ish star reads. it's not really my favorite format but i try to give it a chance every now and then. please still pick this book up if you love poetry!!

Uhhh so unfortunately it turns out that I hate novels written in verse. I have no idea what happened in this book, but it did sound very pretty and it was very gay, which is also the experience of being gay (having no idea what is going on). I think literally anyone else reading this book would enjoy it, but it was Not For Me. I think it’s likely that I would like Ashley Woodfolk’s other books, though! Three stars.
