This definitely felt like a middle book.
The first book was one of my favorite from last year so I had high expectations that were of course not all met.
I enjoyed all the plot twists of the first one so much that I expected the same. I liked being in Gal's head and living the turmoils about what he feels about Ettian and his people's way of life against his mother's cruel way but it was a bit long...
Wen saves this book her character had such a growth in this one! 

The ending was predictable but I definitely want to read the last one
