I’m a huge Ted Dekker fan but this book had its pros and cons. I enjoyed the historical fiction side to the story. Never even heard of Toruń and had to do some more research. That storyline was intense and intriguing. I enjoyed the relationship of sacrificing to that of Jesus, signifying the Pearl of Great price and how we need to prioritize our obsessions. The cons: Stephen’s antics for fulfilling his obsession and the stones of David were a bit over the top and unrealistic even for fiction. Over and over I kept saying to myself, “seriously Stephen? Seriously Ted?” With added face palm. It was a good read and at one point became one I could not put down. Would recommend but with a lower expectation from his other books.

Actual story -- 4/5 stars. Audiobook narration -- 3/5. The narrator really enunciated his /s/ sounds so it was a little painful to listen to at higher volumes but overall it was a good story. Not as good as his others though.
