Okot p'Bitek

First published in Acoli as Lak Tar, this novel from the late Ugandan author of Song of Lawino, Song of Ocol and other major works, is the story of society on the threshold of change. A young Acoli man wishes to marry but cannot raise the bridewealth. He travels to Kampala to find work, and the author humorously relates his efforts.

i was excited to read this but it wasn’t so interesting 

I think some of the issues with this novel are issues with translation, Okot Bitek famously known for he’s poetry collection “Song Of Lawino” the Ugandan writer primarily wrote in Acholi though, in this novel he laments in he’s foreword on the difficulties finding suitable terms and loss of metaphors in the English translation(which he did himself)

That being said I enjoyed reading this as a Ugandan and getting some insight into our society changes due to colonialism in the 50s/60s
