This book is not well written at all and has hands down the dumbest FMC I’ve ever read. This is an adult book that reads like it’s from the perspective of an extremely naive 16 year old. She questions nothing and is basically a puppet for the first half of this book. The pacing is also atrocious - for the first 300 pages NOTHING HAPPENS. We are just taken through this poorly built world where the author is clearly hiding things from the reader to make a bigger impact when they’re actually things the reader should know. The only good part of this book happens in the last 100 pages but it’s honestly so sloppily done I brought my review down from a 2 star review to one and a half.
This book was fun. And definitely the intro for a series. The world building is interesting and I am invested enough to see where it goes from here. The authors use of similes/ metaphors was a bit much at times and sometimes I wanted the MC to realize things more quickly, but not enough to detract from the enjoyment of the story.
