Olivie Blake

Six extraordinary magicians
Five chances to win
One secret society

Once a decade, the world's best magicians are invited to join the elite Alexandrian Society. Its members enjoy a lifetime of power and access to ancient secrets. But only five places are offered. So, after recruitment by the mysterious Atlas Blakely, the candidates must complete a rigorous year of arcane study.

Libby Rhodes and Nico de Varona are inseparable enemies and cosmologists who can control matter with their minds. Parisa Kamali is a telepath, Reina Mori understands the flow of life itself and Callum Nova can manipulate desires. Finally there's Tristan Caine, whose powers mystify even himself. The rivals must survive their trials. And if they can prove themselves, they will. Most of them.

The Atlas Six

The much-acclaimed viral sensation from Olivie Blake, The Atlas Six--now newly revised and edited with additional content. • The tag #theatlassix has millions of views on TikTok • A dark academic debut fantasy with an established cult following that reads like The Secret History meets The Umbrella Academy • The first in an explosive trilogy The Alexandrian Society, caretakers of lost knowledge from the greatest civilizations of antiquity, are the foremost secret society of magical academicians in the world. Those who earn a place among the Alexandrians will secure a life of wealth, power, and prestige beyond their wildest dreams, and each decade, only the six most uniquely talented magicians are selected to be considered for initiation. Enter the latest round of six: Libby Rhodes and Nico de Varona, unwilling halves of an unfathomable whole, who exert uncanny control over every element of physicality. Reina Mori, a naturalist, who can intuit the language of life itself. Parisa Kamali, a telepath who can traverse the depths of the subconscious, navigating worlds inside the human mind. Callum Nova, an empath easily mistaken for a manipulative illusionist, who can influence the intimate workings of a person’s inner self. Finally, there is Tristan Caine, who can see through illusions to a new structure of reality—an ability so rare that neither he nor his peers can fully grasp its implications. When the candidates are recruited by the mysterious Atlas Blakely, they are told they will have one year to qualify for initiation, during which time they will be permitted preliminary access to the Society’s archives and judged based on their contributions to various subjects of impossibility: time and space, luck and thought, life and death. Five, they are told, will be initiated. One will be eliminated. The six potential initiates will fight to survive the next year of their lives, and if they can prove themselves to be the best among their rivals, most of them will. Most of them. "Lethally smart. Filled with a cast of brilliantly realized characters, each entangled with one another in torturously delicious ways, The Atlas Six will grip you by the throat and refuse to let go. Olivie Blake is a mind-blowing talent. " — Chloe Gong, author of NYT Bestselling These Violent Delights "The Atlas Six is a fantasy novel that understands that what the people want is more dark academia stories with flawless vibes and aesthetics and hot morally fraudulent characters who are constantly on the verge of either killing each other or fucking each other. I'm the people." — chai, viral book reviewer @proyearner

this is the book that taught me how to dnf books because i couldn't go through this again.

the atlas six feels like a book i should like if it delivered on what i attempted to. i love stories about the morality of knowledge! i love reading about how it intersects with power! in theory, i even like dark academia.

what i got with this book is the most shallow description (because discussion would be generous) of any of these issues. it is not "meaningful" to just say "westernization" over and over again. that does not give me confidence that the author knows anything except quips, which requires nothing. it is NOT even good character writing to plainly say what could be an interesting dynamic in words and then never show it.

the prose is some faux-aesthetic mess that sounds good and stops there. 383 pages has never felt so long.

i am baffled by the love for the characters when this is how i wrote mine back in my amino roleplay days. the worst part is that i am not even convinced by what the author says about their relationships, which is impressive because it's said so often.

and the worldbuilding? about as science-based as marvel.

thankful for the lesson in valuing my time <3

The whole concept of dark-fantasy and dark-academia is what sold me, but holy, what I just read.. I don't know what's going on, or it's actually just me. The half book in and honestly I still can't get a grasp of the world building and all the concept, the chronical order and setting of this book also confusing, and the writing somehow feels too much, I sometimes got myself lost in what they're actually talking about?

The plot is also still a blur for me, so, was the 3/4 plot of this book actually deciding who to kill? and for whatever reason of this 'sacrifice' is still questionable for me, like what's the point. Also I can't still picture the concept of what's so great about this society and what they actually did in there.

The character relationship between each other is so messy and it sometimes feels contradictory, I don't know, I suppose that's intended? Funny things none of them drawn me, they almost feels same one another. Oh, and, the freaking cheating trope is not it, I swear. It makes me let out a biggest sigh ever.

Uh, okay, so...

I'm normally not the one to buy fantasy books, but my friend gifted me this and so sooner or later I got around to finally reading it. Is this normal for fantasy books, that for the first 300 pages literally nothing happens? I was already happy that I would not have to buy the second book, but then the last 50 pages were such a rollercoaster, that I can't wait to start the next.

My brain is sore after binge-reading this book. So many concepts and theories that stretched my mind trying to keep up. Very well done.

I loved the characters and how intricately written they all were. Blake eloquently captures the many faces of the human condition.

Not really in the mood to read the second book. There are some good ideas and a few twists but where has the world building gone? In the second book? Too late…and too long when the 6 characters are too much alike (24/7 bad temper, arrogant, predictable) and so stereotypical. Apart from Gedeon and maybe Ezra, I was not so much intrigued.

I don’t mind unpleasant characters but I wish they were developed.

That said, I will read another book from O.Blake, probably a standalone this time.

I really loved the complexity of this world and how the dark academia power dissection revolved around the power of knowledge. Lots of interesting applications of epistemic injustice, and all in an enjoyable fantasy novel!

SEGRETI. TRADIMENTI. POTERE.

Dope magical power system. Could do without the seductive character art at the start of chapters.

nah bc why did i read a book-long trailer

i am very much confused and excited,,, i feel strange. but in a good way. i loved the book so much all the gay little characters running around in this gay little world

Was considering pushing myself to finish it, but in the end it just didn't feel worth it. Intriguing back blurb but the execution of the idea/ story just isn't there. In the end I decided to DNF it because it felt like it was holding me back from books I have in my "to be read"- pile that I'm just a lit more intrigued by. Might revisit it (probably not though).

This book bore me to pieces. The back story is interesting, the execution is rubbish. What is it with YA books with made-up names? Reminds me of Indonesian parents in the 90s giving their kids ridiculous names.

The characters were dulls, the story was unclear, yeah the whole Alexandrian society is interesting, but they kept it from the audience all the time and in the end I just gave up.

I did finish the book, with a lot of pain

Wissen ist tödlich

Very interesting but I feel like I still didn’t completely understood the whole world they are living in

Perfect, perfect, perfect I really thought the dark academia vibe wasn’t for me but, this was absolutely amazing.
The ambience the different perspectives of each characters.
An amazing writing and vivid descriptions, I felt like I was there with them I need to read the second one

Was struggling to finish this book and i really really want to like it, but i dont. Nevertheless, the ending is intriguing, kind of makes me wanna read the next book, but we'll see.

The Atlas Six is full of messy ships, confusing magic, and all too many twists and turns. There were points in which I adored this book and its characters, and far more points where I found the descriptions to be long and the twists to be… kind of lame (for lack of a better word). Don’t get me wrong, I fell in love with these characters and their messy lives, and I will continue to read the series to find out where they go. However, the plot of this book felt weird and rushed, with huge plot points occurring in long-drawn out thought dumps. I wish this book had shown me more, instead of telling me nearly everything. On top of that, it felt unsatisfying as a start to a series. It left me wanting more, but with absolutely no finality. Because I love the 6 main characters so much, this gets three stars from me.
