*3.5 Forgettable but good

This is from the classic series, but it is the general background to what would one day become the HorrorLand series. Another I grabbed the audio of for a long trip with my fiancée.
The Morris family is lost, they can’t seem to find the amusement park they are looking for. If only they hadn’t forgotten the map! After a bit of aimless driving they decide to stop…that’s when they see the sign for Horrorland. The kids are so tired of the car they beg to give it a shot. Maybe they’ll live to regret it!
I love the twist of this one and the use of real monsters in the park. It definitely makes this one more fantasy than some of the others, and it’s a lot of fun.
Personally a 3/5* for me. Narration was a tiny bit irksome.

*3.5 Forgettable but good

I never got around to reviewing One Day at Horrorland when I read it last year, which is sad because it is one of my favourite Goosebumps books! The story deals with a road trip gone terribly wrong when the Morris family gets lost and ends up at Horrorland. Luke and Lizzie are so incredibly bored of driving through endless deserted landscape that they convince their parents to take an afternoon trip through the park, but it's a strange creepy place, and something doesn't feel right about it... Particularly after their car explodes in the parking lot! What works so well about Horrorland is the constant stream of terrifying situations that the kids find themselves in as well as their parents. In most Goosebumps novels, it is the kids against a skeptic world. However, in this book there is no doubt that something is wrong as the adults are caught up in the scary happenings as well, and Horrorland certainly delivers on creepiness. Theme park rides can be quite unnerving in real life, and when you get trapped in floating coffins, lost in an evil house of mirrors, and almost slide into endless nothingness, you might avoid amusement parks for the rest of your life! That is, if you have much of one left... The Morris family escapes after finding out that they are on a reality TV show for monsters which I find delightfully hilarious given how TV has evolved since the Goosebumps series came out. Filled with constant action and terror, Horrorland is one of the best of the Goosebumps canon!
