I don’t think I’ve ever been as chilled and gripped by a beginning of a story ever. The first 10 pages got me messed up. And the first 30 pages are riveting and heart wrenching. If you’re a fan of Room, you would like this book. Super painful to read of the child’s point of view of how he copes with his PTSD. It feels exploitative but it is fiction. It kind of makes me think that this is Newtown fan fiction but helps the reader see it from the child’s point of view, considering we are not going to get that in real life. I enjoyed reading this even though it was painful. Moral of the story: Gun control NOW. Enough is enough!

The way Rhiannon can write in such a perfect style of a young kid without it being too over the top or trying too hard is so simply well written. I cried. I cried. And I cried. I am glad I choose to try the audiobook as I don't think I would be able to read this book with all the sobbing I did. The way Zach showed his parents how to heal by just being a kid was gut-wrenching and beautiful.
