Sixteen-year-old Marlon has made his mum a promise - he'll never follow his big brother, Andre, down the wrong path. So far, it's been easy, but when a date ends in tragedy, Marlon finds himself hunted. They're after the mysterious Mr Orange, and they're going to use Marlon to get to him. It was a well written book, and I couldn’t put it down. Not necessarily in a good way though, because the main character just kept on making really bad decisions, I just wanted in to be over. An example of bad decision is when he bought a gun illegally. For protection. How’s that gonna end Marlon? Just happy it’s over.

This book is actually written quite well and you can believe that it’s meant to be from the perspective of a 16-year old. The book also references things that are recognisable for most British people (I don’t know maybe Americans too) like Cornettos. I liked that this book talks about the dangers that teens/young people face when it comes to drugs. Overall not a bad storyline.

I’m really confused about how I feel about this book. I don’t know why, but try as I might, I just couldn’t get into it. There were times when I felt like dropping it because it felt so boring even though there was a lot of action happening. I have no idea why I felt like this, maybe it was just me.

It could be because (for some of the characters) there wasn’t a lot of character development. After a while it doesn’t matter how many Gangstas you have in a story if they all act and speak the same. I didn’t really root for Marlon. Also, I wasn’t very fond of Tish (Marlon’s best friend) especially nearer the beginning as she often seemed to put down other girls.

Overall, this book was meh. For most of it, I wanted it to end because I was bored. Maybe I just don’t like the author’s writing style, maybe she has loads of better pieces, but not this one for me sorry.
