but i was made for far bigger monsters than this.

the main reason i read this was for the f/f and it was so beautiful developed but the plot did feel a little slow in parts

The Huntresses of Artemis must obey two rules: never disobey the goddess, and never fall in love. After being rescued from a harrowing life as an Oracle of Delphi, Kahina is glad to be a part of the Hunt; living among a group of female warriors gives her a chance to reclaim her strength, even while her prophetic powers linger. But when a routine mission goes awry, Kahina breaks the first rule in order to save the legendary huntress Atalanta. 
To earn back Artemis’s favor, Kahina must complete a dangerous task in the kingdom of Arkadia— where the king’s daughter is revealed to be none other than Atalanta. Still reeling from her disastrous quest and her father’s insistence on marriage, Atalanta isn’t sure what to make of Kahina. As her connection to Atalanta deepens, Kahina finds herself in danger of breaking Artemis’ second rule.
She helps Atalanta devise a dangerous game to avoid marriage, and word spreads throughout Greece, attracting suitors willing to tempt fate to go up against Atalanta in a race for her hand. But when the men responsible for both the girls’ dark pasts arrive, the game turns deadly.

The book is narrated from two alternating PoVs, Atalanta’s and Kahina’s, and while this is definitely the best choice story-wise, the voices of the two girls are too similar, and it’s complicated at times to remember whose PoV one is reading. The pace at the beginning of the book was slow, and the narrative seemed sloppy during the first few chapters. Nevertheless. as soon as the story started picking up, things started to get interesting as characters and their relationships are developed, and the story turned into a hurricane of plot twists and (almost literally) back stabbing.
That said, while the premise of the book says the story is set in ancient Greece, it is hard to find ancient Greece in the book. There was, despite the characters, little to no ancient Greece in the culture, in the worshipping of Gods and Goddesses, or in the relationships between men and women.

It was beautiful to see the girl slowly but surely developing feelings for each other and coming to acknowledge and accept those feelings, and it was nice to see that the author did not make a huge deal about it, but treated it like one might treat any other kind of romance plot. I was so excited to get the chance to read Outrun the Wind. Greek mythology has always fascinated me, so when I heard about a book inspired by those myths and had two strong female leads, I knew I needed to check it out. And on the whole, I wasn't disappointed by this book. 

One aspect of a book that can either make or break it for me is the characters. If I don't like the characters, I probably won't enjoy the book no matter what the plot is like. I'm happy to say that Outrun the Wind has some really fantastic characters. I loved the growth of Atalanta and Kahina. While at times it felt a little rushed, I still had so much fun learning about these two ladies. 

The plot moved a little unevenly for my taste. Sometimes I felt like things moved way too slow, and then other times the book felt way too rushed. But, I did enjoy the overall plot. It kept me wanting to read more, even when things slowed down a bit.

So, on the whole, I think this is a great book. If you like Greek Mythology, I would highly recommend giving Outrun the Wind a read!

Review: Overall I thought this book was really good. If you’re into Greek Mythology then this book will be amazing for you. The characters are developed and the plot is intriguing. The book is also well written and I just felt so absorbed by it.

However, the book does drop you off in the middle of everything and it’s very hard to follow throughout. The book is too fast paced in my opinion and there is a lot going on in the beginning and throughout the book. If the book had just slowed down it could have easily been a trilogy with the amount of events that happen in this book.

Verdict: It was good, but could have been less chaotic.

We’re still moving, but I’m not certain how or what we’re doing. Everything else spills into a murky, blurred mess of colorful shadows. All I know is her lips are less than a breath away from mine. Her hands look right laced in mine. Her eyes reflect the flames from around the hall. The music grows louder still.

I really enjoyed this story. I was intrigued by the premise, stories set in mythology are some of my favorites; I love reading an author's version of what the events surrounding a popular mythical tale might have been. Outrun the Wind really succeeded in making the myth of Atalanta come alive and feel real. I loved the dual POVs to really get a sense of what emotions are playing out for both Atalanta and Kahina. If you're a purist concerning mythological tales, this probably isn't for you, but if you enjoy a good spin on a classic story rooted in myth, you will love this one!

The book is told in alternating perspectives from Kahina and Atalanta. I think was a good choice and the best way to tell the story, as not all the action occurs when they are together. Yes, their voices were similar but both characters are strong, independent huntresses so it does make sense. 

The romance between Kahina and Atalanta was so sweet. I loved the fact that there wasn’t a big deal make that the romance was between two girls. Also, enjoyed the slow build up and how the attraction is sprinkled throughout. It would be nice if the book was longer to give space for each plot point along with the romance elements.

Overall this was an enjoyable debut novel. I adore the mix of Greek mythology we do get. Artemis is my favourite goddess and think her representation was believable in comparison to the myths. The romance was so sweet and I really adore these two together.
