Story was alright, like 25% of the book was basically flashbacks though and I’m getting more irked by multiple boyfriend plot lines every book. Still finishing the series though bc I own up to 8

kayy well im not sure if i remember everything correctly but il try!!: well, untamed left of with zoey and her group of friends including eric leaving the house of night campus because kalona has come out and neferet is bad and evrything and stevie-rae got hit with the arrow. and also how darius stays who is the son of erebus people. yeah okay so hunted starts of with a dream zoey had of kalona which creeps her out so she recaps what happened after her and her friends end up in the underground tunnel where stevie-rae and her red fledgling people lived. darius helps get the arrow out of stevie-rae though she lost a lot of blood but she's fine. zoey and her group introduce themselves to the red fledglings ...so they realize one of the red fledglings is gifted with poetry and her poems mite help defeat kalona or least make him go away for a long time. so evryone goes to their rooms and then its only zoey and eric left and u kno how they broke up because of the whole zoey having sex with loren thing. so they get back together and then zoey takes a showed then goes to bed. that's when the recap stops and its starts of rite after she wakes up from her nightmare. she cant sleep anymore so she decides to find reception for her phone and deeen she runs into eric and they start talking and evrything and then..HEATH comes because zoey had called him and told him to go hide and she would be in the underground tunnels. so like th for sum reason heath and eric sare about to fight but zoey stops them and then heathe tells her that they need to talk and she says i cant because of eric but then he's like zoey its important but then eric says oh zoeys not coming with you nd then zoey gets mad because hellooo eric is overprotective and blah blah blah and she's like actually heath ill come with u. so they decided to get out of the building and of course its pracitically sleeting outside so they go to heaths car they talk and heathe wants zoey to bite him but she doesnt so she gets out of the car and then one of kalonas "sons" is there the raven mocker thing and he tries to get at heath first but zoey pushes him away and then the clawd hit zoey on her chest and they did in soo deep and then she tries to fight back and she wins by using fire and burning the r.m. but then she falls down cuz she lost A LOT of blood being hurt badly. so then heath carries her to darius and evryone else finds out and theyre all like WOWWW wat happened and then darius cleans up zoey. they later get a text saying all house of night students should return to campus.... it was a coverup.... darius says that zoey wont be able to survive much longer if they stay down there and dont get a real doctor. so they decide to return and then they get in and kalona meets them near the clinic and then he takes zoey and it was easy for evryone else to resist his charm especially for aphrodite so she ends up in the clinic ...then she hears neferet and kalona talking and then she wakes up after they leave... then there's a raven mocker rite in front of her and she screams so darius runs in to save her and hits the raven mocker! lol kalona comes in and starts to choke darius ..since zoey gets freaked she stands up and ties the sheet round her and since darius is really getting hurt she puts her arms up and out and uses wind to push kalona of and then kalona decides to slash darius in the face then he leaves but then zoey and darius get out of the clinic anf they go to the sons of erebus dorm and there she cleans up darius they all meet up at the girls dorm but when they are on their way ...they see stark again biting a fledgling ....zoey gets mad making stark stop and evrythin then he leaves..... zoey goes inside then they talk and then aphrodite freaks when she sees darius with the scar on his face bt zoey tells them evrythin and then they find cats in the room that belong to the horse lady and dragon and they find out how to make kalona go away given the poem that the girl wrote... the horse lady helps the students escape house of night and zoey goes to the abby she helps get rid of kalona!! dain is long lol

           I really hate how quickly these books move. We’re supposed to believe that it’s only been about 2, maybe 3, months since the first book? That timeline is insane. Especially when you get detailed with her personal shit.

ALL OF THIS HAPPENS IN 3 MONTHS!!! 
Besides the fact that the timeline is INSANE, the writing is god-awful. This is the fourth (?) book, why are we still detailing who the twins are and what your daily schedule is? We know all this already! We don’t need a recap for everything!
And the boyfriends, oh my God! “I want Erik. No, wait, I don’t want him. He hates me now, I still love him! Oh, but now he’s being jealous and possessive. I’m attracted to other people which MUST mean Erik is the problem, not me.” Shut the fuck up.
The story is good, like the premise of it. It’s interesting. But the writing is terrible and the main character is garbage. I’d rather read all of it from Aphrodite’s POV. She’s better main character material seeing as how she’s the only one to make any development at all so far.

I shivered, but I didn't pull away. After the terrible arrival of the dark angel Kalona at the House of Night, Zoey Redbird and her friends have fled to the tunnels under the town, where they hide out with the strange new red Vampyre fledglings. Everything changes when Zoey is badly injured - and finds herself back at the House of Night, face to face with Stark, who she hasn't forgotten since he died in her arms. But now Stark is working for Neferet. Can Zoey trust him? Who is really on her side as the battle begins? And what price will she have to pay for following her heart? - Not suitable for younger readers -

Number 5 in series

Opens with a dream sequence that will sort of show you how this overall tone is going to play out between our protagonist and the evil she is currently fighting. We get a better look of the red fledgling and how they have been operating since returning mostly to themselves, as well as some more prophecy type thi gs written in prose. Zoey continues to find herself in love triangle types of situations as well as just general stressful situations. Having just barely escaped the events of the last book she must go in to the lions den and hopefully come back out alive. She finds that despite more or less being in a brainwashed school, there are those that are able to not be sucked in by the allure of Nefret and Kalona. Story ends in another good note. Good triumphing over evil

Sigh. This could have been a four star read, like Untamed, if it weren't for the backtracking re: all the relationship drama! Romance isn't a massive deal for me. I don't usually complain about it being in a lot of stories, but for some reason it really drives me nuts in House of Night. I mean, honestly? I? Don't? Understand? You guys are hiding in TUNNELS, legitimately underground and hiding from two forms of evil, and then you are in the same building as said evils, and... Zoey's ever-expanding love life is such a big focus?

Hunted could have been just as epic as Untamed, if not for all of this. I know much of what I'm about to dive into is built upon in later books, but still. There were times when Hunted felt more like a filler novel. While there were plenty of moments where it had its highs, I want to take a minute to just babble about what could have been in Hunted.

We could have built onto the mythology of the Red Vampyres/fledglings and how some of them got their humanity back while others didn't. We could have built onto why Stevie Rae is keeping secrets. We could have built more onto Aphrodite's powers as a prophetess. We could have developed the imprint between Stevie Rae and Aphrodite. We could have seen more of Jack and Damien's cute little relationship. We could have seen more of Shaunee and Erin in general. We could have seen more of the past and its mythology re: Kalona and A-Ya. We could have seen Kalona and Neferet's manipulation of the other fledglings. 

But, well, we didn't. 

That being said: Hunted was still that dishy goodness we came to know and love about House of Night. The eavesdropping that Zoey participates in after her near-death experience. The will they, won't they? tangles of Zoey and Stark; the crumbling of Zoey and Erik's second chance at their relationship, the inclusion of Heath and the fact that he and Zoey have imprinted again.

For me, of course, Zoey and Aphrodite's friendship takes the spotlight. There's this scene where, when they have to go back to the school to make sure Zoey doesn't die, Aphrodite demands to stay with Zoey. And that really makes me happy. I mean, they've come a very long way since the series began, and I am always fond of seeing it explored. 

As always, the writing has improved greatly during Hunted. Higher quality prose, higher stakes and a whole lot of teen angst meeting chosen one antics. Zoey's matured a little more in this installment and I think this entirely has to do with learning from her past, distancing herself from it, and learning who she is along with Aphrodite and Stevie Rae. The character development the three have had is vastly different from each other, but definitely on similar ground.

Each installment brings something new. If there is one thing that P.C. and Kristin have done wonders with, it is the ever-expanding world and mythology in this series. I loved the story of A-Ya and her creation, and the fact that a piece of her soul is woven into Zoey. Reincarnation is always a plus for me in any story, and I think that this was a really smart move in terms of narration of a chosen one. 

What I mean to say is, it explains greatly why Zoey is able to standout from her peers in the ways that she has. The way it ties together with her abilities makes a world of sense to me. 

Romance drama aside, I think that my favourite part of Hunted was the growing tension between evil and good. We saw it reach a near explosive point during the last two books, but it finally sets off its first explosion during the final quarter of Hunted. That ending? YES. Sign me up. Bring on the next one! I need it like I need air.
