Honestly, there was so much I really did like and Grant's weird obsession with being naked all the time aside (which I admit was sorta funny but was a little over the top) I loved his character. He is a big softie and the way he came to care for Amanda and her boy was really sweet. At the start he was grumpy and really kept to himself not letting people in but over the course of the book they all became a family and I think that's what I love most with the single parent trope. Their development felt natural and not forced they went from annoyance to friendship to love, and it all worked perfectly for this style of story. Amanda was also a strong character who overcame a lot in her life to be a better mom for her son. Grant was haunted by his family history of dv and that prevented him from wanting to form any strong connections. If I were rating this book purely on the story and romance then it would probably be a 4 Star read, I didn't love it as much as Sledgehammer but I really did like it.

However, I refule to rate it any hight than 3 Stars because my enjoyment of the romance and story get watered down big time by some choices of dialog that rubbed me completely the wrong way. More than anything just because of how unessarry to include to inject humor. I bothered by certain throwaway internal thoughts Amanda quickly made to a joke about eating cats and her thinking about questionable Chinese food in Istanbul. I feel like there is a lot of misinformation about Turkey and I heard a number of it from people when you mention going to travel there. So maybe I'm more sensitive because I came back less than two months ago from a vacation in Turkey (one of my favourite places ever) and for anyone who doesn't know or has never been but it is one of the most loving animal friendly places around and cats especially are treated really well. Even the idea anyone would harm them and put them in food is about as bad as it gets. For example, I was at this restaurant and there were these two small kittens pawing at the door not only did the owner let them inside but also brought them food, and this is what it's like everywhere in Turkey. Not to mention the food in Turkey is some of the best I have ever tried and the implication any food could taste like it could be made out of cats is ignorant and downright offensive. So yeah this whole thing was very off-putting, and in the future, the author should put more care into what these types of throwaway comments could imply
