Paperboy by Vince Vawter is set in Memphis in July, 1959. Little Man as the housekeeper Mam calls him loves to play baseball and loves to type out his thoughts on his typewriter. What he's not good at is talking. He stutters. I agree with the reviewer who used the word "tone-deaf" to describe this book. http://pussreboots.com/blog/2020/comm...

*3.75.

I enjoyed this book, especially with the author's note at the end. I do not think this will be a popular book for my middle schoolers, it is more of an enjoyable children's book for grown ups. Pair it with Lions of Little Rock, Kizzy Ann Stamps or other Civil Rights era books for the setting and discussion about segregation mentioned in the book.

This book was pretty good. I would definitely recommend it. For some reason, Ara T reminded me of Mural from TWD

Another book from my list of books that teach empathy: about how people live. This one is about stuttering, but there’s also a deaf boy as well as Southern blacks in 1959. Lots of different viewpoints that I wouldn’t otherwise read.
