Night broken

" #1 New York Times bestselling author Patricia Briggs's Mercy Thompson series has been hailed as "one of the best" (Fiction Vixen). Now, Mercy must deal with an unwanted guest-one that brings a threat unlike anything she's ever known. An unexpected phone call heralds a new challenge for Mercy. Her mate Adam's ex-wife is in trouble, on the run from a stalker. Adam isn't the kind of man to turn away a person in need-and Mercy knows it. But with Christy holed up in Adam's house, Mercy can't shake the feeling that something about the situation isn't right. Soon, her suspicions are confirmed when she learns that Christy has the farthest thing from good intentions. She wants Adam back and she's willing to do whatever it takes to make it happen, including turning Adam's pack against Mercy. Mercy isn't about to step down without a fight, but there's a more dangerous threat circling. Christy's stalker is more than a bad man-in fact, he may not be human at all. As the bodies start piling up, Mercy must put her personal troubles aside to face a creature with the power to tear her whole world apart. "--

This review may be SLIGHTLY biased for several reasons. Number One. I don’t read many paranormal novels. Number Two. Patricia Briggs is one of the only paranormal authors I’ve read. And Number Three. It has Werewolves, and Vampires and everything good that makes a truly amazing paranormal novel. I wonder at the fact that I may never read another paranormal series again; and that novel or series live up to the expectations that is Patricia Briggs. She has created this amazing world of vampires, fae, and werewolves and I intend to get as lost in it as I possibly can, for as long as I possibly can. It’s never a dull moment for Mercy and her pack when they receive a mysterious phone call from Adam’s ex-wife, Cristy. She’s frantic, panicking, and seeking help and protection from an alleged stalker she has. In addition to the Cristy problem, Mercy is visited by someone who is trying to track down the walking stick, and they want it really badly. As the bodies start piling up, Mercy believes this isn’t just some stalker. They’re dealing with something more dangerous. Like I said, biased. There’s nothing quite like a Briggs novel. I’m a huge fan of her Mercy Thompson series and her Alpha Omega series which is a spin-off. Both Werewolf themed, and both amazing. What I love best about Brigg’s novels, and what separates her from other paranormal writers is the pack hierarchy. What I mean by pack hierarchy is that everyone in the pack has a position – some more dominant than others. Everyone knows their place and knows when to challenge others in arguments. Because Mercy is married and mated to Adam – the Alpha – she’s automatically the second highest ranking member of the pack. After her, goes his second and his mate, then third, etc etc. Usually this is a wolf trait but even when they’re in human form they follow these rules. It’s amazing to see something like that translated into words; having certain members of the pack look down when Mercy gives them an order because she’s of higher dominance than they are. Other than that, everyone is just pretty kick-ass. Mercy is one of those really badass chicks that every woman wants to be and every man wants to sleep with. She’s hot and sexy even without trying. She and Adam DESERVE each other, and I absolutely just love them together! I would want Adam for myself if I didn’t think Mercy could kick my ass if I tried to take him. And he’s just as in love with her as she is with him. Aside from the main characters, everyone is just amazing. Except Cristy. Cause we don’t like her. We hate her. And there are some people you might hate for a second but then they become bad-asses too (other Wolves in the pack). One thing that kind of irked me and that kind of made this book drop from a 5 to a 4 out of 5, is after a certain event (which I won’t spoil), the book gets rather dull. Everything becomes boring and slow, and some of it even seems like filler to me. There was one, maybe two scenes that REALLY DIDN’T NEED TO HAPPEN, I just thought it was completely random, and out of place, and didn’t really contribute to the story much. The scenes I refer to, sort of random, I mean there is a reason it’s there and I understand why, (because I like to justify scenes), but I think the story could have gone without it. That is…of course perhaps Briggs is setting up future novels and is giving us a hint as to what they’re about. I already have ideas. ;) Either way, I loved the first half of this book! It was amazing, it was so interesting, so fast-paced, and just everything you’d expect from a Briggs novel. The second half…not so much. I wish she didn’t write practically one book a year, especially when she has multiple series. 4/5 Hearts of Love Check out the rest of my reviews at http://www.akiikomorireading.com

Adam's ex-wife has come to the pack for help. She needs their protection. She also wants to turn the pack against Mercy and get Adam back. She obviously doesn't know who she's messing with. I LOVED this book!!

Okay, this is the first book about Mercy Thompson that I have strong emotions about. Adam was such an idiot this time! Honestly... well, that's all I'm going to say.
