it’s always interesting when writers choose other writers to be central characters within a novel. auster utilized the work of sid and john to explore roughly 5 (or so) stories without allowing them to muddy the primary plot. oracle night could’ve easily been a frame to hold a collection of short stories, but I do respect auster’s willingness to share ideas that he felt were worth sharing without the need to fully flesh them out. he did so in a fun and relevant way and i appreciate that each proposed story was actually significant to the plot. i liked it! it was overall a pretty fun reading experience
