This book was kind of slow. It felt like it didn’t really start until almost halfway through, and I was almost 3/4 of the way in when I started to actually feel invested in anything that was happening. The ending was nice. It came full circle in a sweet way, but it wasn’t really worth it to get there. I think the dual perspective had the potential to be really interesting, but it often just felt like I was reading the same story twice. It all just felt pretty flat to me. Overall I’d say it was an okay book, but it wasn’t for me. However, I would be interested in reading another book by this author later down the road. This is only her second book and I’d imagine she’s set to have a long career. She’s certainly quite a talented writer.

I absolutely adore any story about witches, especially ones like in this book where the powers are subtle and less flying around on a broomstick. To me, it adds a sense of possibility to the fantasy. The book switches back and forth, chapter by chapter, between perspectives and it took me a little while to understand what was happening at first, and then took a little extra brain power to figure out what was going on every time the switched happened. However, I do think it made the most sense for the story to see two timelines happening at once and coming together in the end. Very well written.
