The secret is here in the present. If you pay attention to the present, you can improve upon it. And, if you improve on the present, what comes later will also be better. A special 25th anniversary edition of the extraordinary international bestseller, including a new Foreword by Paulo Coelho. Combining magic, mysticism, wisdom and wonder into an inspiring tale of self-discovery, The Alchemist has become a modern classic, selling millions of copies around the world and transforming the lives of countless readers across generations. Paulo Coelho's masterpiece tells the mystical story of Santiago, an Andalusian shepherd boy who yearns to travel in search of a worldly treasure. His quest will lead him to riches far different—and far more satisfying—than he ever imagined. Santiago's journey teaches us about the essential wisdom of listening to our hearts, of recognizing opportunity and learning to read the omens strewn along life's path, and, most importantly, to follow our dreams.

Ascolta il tuo cuore. Esso conosce tutte le cose.

The Alchemist is novel written by Paulo Coelho in 1988. The novel is about a young shepherd, that has repetitive dream about finding treasure in the pyramids. Throughout the novel the young shepherd's aim is to make his dream come true by finding his “personal legend", which is the treasure he dreams about. This book really engages the reader throughout the shepherd's journey to finding the treasure and it feels like we, the readers, are the ones looking for it. This is such an adventurous and thrilling novel as much as it is a type of escape from reality. This novel helped me understand how important it is to never give up on your dreams and to never listen to judgements from others.

Mateo Wright

Some great lines, but ultimately convenient and a bit hammy.

An Andalusian shepherd boy named Santiago travels from his homeland in Spain to the Egyptian desert in search of a treasure buried in the Pyramids. Along the way he meets a Gypsy woman, a man who calls himself king, and an alchemist, all of whom point Santiago in the direction of his quest. No one knows what the treasure is, or if Santiago will be able to surmount the obstacles along the way. But what starts out as a journey to find worldly goods turns into a discovery of the treasures found within.

A Fable About Following Your Dream

this is my first ever book that i finished fully, i hope i read a lot of books instead of scrolling lol

I understand the message the author is trying to convey and the first part was pretty good but as the book progresses, it just gets pretty much preachy and dumbed down upon you. The philosophy of 'if you have a dream you must chase it: either youd achieve it or the journey would be remarkable' is insanely right on your face and feels rather dumbed down to be frank. It may come in handy for someone who is searching for something in life, but as a piece of literature? I have my doubts, feels like the philosophy is being shoved in our throats rather than us trying to understand and intepret the book

HMMMM.......I don't know... It felt super preachy and religious. I mean the whole plot was basically just god's plan for a person. It was interesting but not the best. I didn't like the story.

A really very amazing read to gain brand new perspective on life

Every few decades a book is published that changes the lives of its readers forever. This is such a book - a magical fable about learning to listen to your heart, read the omens strewn along life's path and, above, all follow your dreams.

Despite not being religious, the motivational sentiment is inspiring.

“It's the possibility of having a dream come true that makes life interesting, he thought.”

Absolute classic.

Thoroughly hooked from start to finish.

Ok yeah I don’t really get the point of this book… cool that it’s based off an old folktale though? Easy read but… idk once you get to the ending it almost feels like everything was a waste

Paulo Coelho's enchanting novel has inspired a devoted following around the world. This story, dazzling in its powerful simplicity and soul-stirring wisdom, is about an Andalusian shepherd boy named Santiago who travels from his homeland in Spain to the Egyptian desert in search of a treasure buried near the Pyramids. Along the way he meets a Gypsy woman, a man who calls himself king, and an alchemist, all of whom point Santiago in the direction of his quest. No one knows what the treasure is, or if Santiago will be able to surmount the obstacles in his path. But what starts out as a journey to find worldly goods turns into a discovery of the treasure found within. Lush, evocative, and deeply humane, the story of Santiago is an eternal testament to the transforming power of our dreams and the importance of listening to our hearts.

i adore the many references of islamic beliefs and it brought me really new perspectives of my own religion that i didnt even acknowledge. This book made me realize that even when our fates had already been written  its still a mystery, its like we still can choose our own decisions even when allah had written that already.Lately i have been really melancholic about decisions in life ,i was afraid to choose this or that im afraid option a had more disadvatages than option b etc,but then i read”let your heart guides you”it made me “awake”in some way,and now i know what i really want ,if its something i really want im sure god has already written the best decision for me and help me ,even when i end up with the decision i didnt want im sure god has better things coming ahead and im sure that was the decision that i “needed”.i know its a bit cliche but every person in the world has to read this

teaches me alot and made me realize many things about choices and letting your”heart”guides you it helps me so much even in my boring and a bit sorrow life i can find the teeny tiny bits of joy and acceptance with my life and i can get better

There were times that the book felt repetitive and somewhat shallow but it also contained a good amount of symbolism, magical philosophy, and simple life lessons that I think a person should always remember. An easy but good read.

I very much enjoyed reading this book, it was an easy read, and it was something I definitely needed to hear at this time in my life. I'm 18 and have no idea where I'm going in life or what I'm doing, this book has inspired me to follow my dreams and never give up on them no matter what. I related deeply to this phrase "People are afraid to pursue their most important dreams, because they feel that they don’t deserve them, or that they’ll be unable to achieve them", I find this true in my case, I'm so afraid to go for what I want because I'm afraid of failure. I'm also so focused on the past and future that I forget the present; I forget to live and be in the moment. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone of any age especially if you're having a hard time in not knowing what to do and following what you want in life, it's a short and easy read.

personally, i liked its symbolism and philosophical views, and if you know me, you’d understand how much i love any form of literature about dreams and destiny. however, it did feel repetitive at times, and i didn’t enjoy much of the final chapters, especially the ending.

i suddenly don't wanna die after this book

Wow. This book found me at the right time of my life. I needed to hear this story of believing in yourself no matter what gets thrown your way. Stay on your path and it’ll all make sense.
