Sarah J. Maas

The tempestuous third book in the fantasy series from global #1 bestselling author Sarah J. Maas Feyre has returned to the Spring Court, determined to gather information on Tamlin's manoeuvrings and the invading king threatening to bring her land to its knees. But to do so she must play a deadly game of deceit – and one slip may spell doom not only for Feyre, but for her world as well. As war bears down upon them all, Feyre must decide who to trust amongst the dazzling and lethal High Lords and hunt for allies in unexpected places. And her heart will face the ultimate test as she and her mate are forced to question whether they can truly trust each other. Sarah J. Maas's books have sold millions of copies and have been translated into 37 languages. Discover the sweeping romantic fantasy for yourself.

I have to say, yes I'm aware Sarah J. Maas is incredibly controversial at the moment, and has been for a while. HOWEVER:

the ACTOR series cannot be denied as a spell binding and bewitching series of books and this one is no doubt any less fantastic.

The world building continues, the plot thickens, Feyre and Rhys both adopt enemies to become part of their army to fight Hybern, there's unecessary deaths, rebirth, heartbreak and so much more, and even on my third or fourth reread, this book is a fantastic page turner, palette cleanser and something to get me out of a book slump.

Watching Feyre become this incredible warrior after her original life as a poor and weak young girl in the first book is so satisfying. Growing into her High Lady status.

4.0 stars I was genuinely shocked at how much I liked this book. ACOMAF was my favorite but this was so so close to that level. I just have to say . . . NESSIAN. I love Nesta truly, I have since ACOTAR, to be honest. I can't wait to read ACOSF simply because of her story and her character. First of all . . . can someone take the word 'mate' out of SJM's vocab, please? It was so overused I actually felt myself getting angry every time I read that word. Azriel continues to be my favorite character in this series but omg . . . lowkey ship him and Elain, their friendship is so cute. The Suriel's passing made me cry actually. A creature who hasn't known kindness or well treatment from anyone sacrificed itself for Feyre, simply because Feyre was kind to them. That made my heart skip a beat. The Bone Carver and the Weaver's deaths hit pretty hard, too, for some reason. I think seeing them as such powerful creatures throughout the last three books has made me attached to them in thinking they were going to last forever. Seeing them gone reminded me how powerful Hybern was, as well as I wasn't expecting it. Rhys dying literally make my heart stop for a sec. I knew he had to come back somehow cause I heard the preface for ACOFAS, but it still made me silently scream. The last battle was so epic in a way where all the characters who had been away for a while had come in. Feyre, Elain, and Nesta's father's army shocked me to my core. I screamed out of joy. I knew he had to come into play somehow since he had been gone for so long. Same with Lucien, Queen Vassa, and Miryam and Drakon. That was epic. One of the reasons this isn't rated 5 stars is because who is going to tell SJM that smut does NOT need to be every five chapters ??? It was so unnecessary to have so much. Another reason this isn't rated 5 out of 5 is because of that one part where Mor is yelling at Feyre for lying about going to find the Suriel, and then Feyre turns it around on Mor about lying about her sexuality ???? The two can't compare because one could've actually killed Feyre and the other is simply none of her business ?? This part actually made me furious and Feyre. She had no right to meddle with Mor's love life just because she was getting called out for lying and heading into what actually was a death trap. Tamlin still makes my blood boil, but he got a decent redemption arc, although it could never undo the damage he had done. Anyways, Feyre's mental health journey was really well done here and in ACOMAF. It's almost like I was healing along with her, and it's so refreshing to have realistic aftermath portrayed of traumatic events, rather than just a 'ope, I'm good to go' kind of story. Overall, 4.0 stars is what I'd rate this book, but I thought it was a fitting close to this Feyre and Rhysand trilogy. The closure was there, the beginning of Nessian was there, and the action was there.

Honestly it was a good book but why'd it have to be 700 damn pages 🙃

So far, this is my favourite out of the series.

- Feyre is a bit less annoying and unreasonable ;).

- Bryaxis, the Bone Carver and the Weaver.

- Telling me that someone is super powerful, but not really showing it. Avoiding putting their power into words, in a way like: ‘He/she is so powerful, that I can’t talk about it…’

- The enemy. I don’t feel his power. You’ve been telling me that the High Lords, and especially Rhys, are sooo powerful, and that with all their powers combined… Hybern is still more powerful? How?

- Bringing back characters that died. Just let them die, or don’t. Death looses it’s meaning, it’s danger.

- Bringing back Rhys the same way they did for Feyre, but not giving him the powers of all the High Lords and not explaining how that’s possible, just letting Rhys say “You lot will be pleased to know…My power remains my own. No thieving here.”

They gave a part of themselves… Why would Feyre get the powers, but not Rhys?

I am so obsessed with Feyre and Rhysand that it physically hurts me. What also hurts me is that I cannot go to Velaris. Basically I love this universe to the highest degree. These characters are just everything to me. Just know that I needed every word of this book like it was OXYGEN.

The books in this series get better and better! Couldn't stop reading when I got to the third part of the book.

“We have plot at home”

The plot at home:

Sarah J. Maas has done it again with the third instalment of the "A Court of Thorns and Roses" series, A Court of Wings and Ruin. From the very first page, this book flew me into a world of danger, intrigue, and heart-pounding adventure, leaving me breathless with every twist and turn and just wanting more constantly.

One of the greatest strengths of Maas's storytelling lies in her extraordinary world-building. In A Court of Wings and Ruin, the richly imagined landscapes of Prythian unfold with breathtaking detail. From the beauty of Velaris to the ominous shadows of the Spring Court, each setting feels alive and immersive, pulling readers deeper into this magical realm. Maas's ability to balance lush descriptions with compelling action keeps the pacing flawless and the reader utterly engaged.

The characters in this book are nothing short of magnetic. Feyre, our fearless protagonist, shines brighter than ever as she navigates the complexities of war, loyalty, and love. Her evolution from a reluctant heroine to a cunning strategist is nothing short of inspiring. Rhysand, as always, is magnificently layered—his charm, strength, and vulnerability making him one of the most captivating characters in fantasy literature today.

This book is a masterclass in emotional storytelling. Moments of heartache, triumph, and passion are woven seamlessly into the narrative. The tension is palpable as Feyre and her allies face impossible odds, and the stakes feel devastatingly real. Maas is unafraid to explore the darker sides of human nature, yet she balances this with moments of hope and beauty that remind readers why they fell in love with this series in the first place.

If you're looking for a book that will make you laugh, cry, and cheer in equal measure, A Court of Wings and Ruin is the perfect choice. Give yourself the gift of this incredible journey—you won't regret it.

Love feyre. Love Rhys. Couldn’t put it down. I was gasping and pacing at multiple parts. And yet, I can’t deal w the “I’m gonna kill them, just kidding they magically lived!” Trope more than once, MAYBE twice. And SJM is guilty of that one sooo much esp in this series. Also the whole growls of pleasure drown out the sound of the dying and injured 🫠

There were so many plot twists throughout this book it was crazy. The universe that this author has created is so complex and interesting. Character development for some many different characters is amazing. 5⭐️ read for sure!! I am disappointed I waited so long to read this series bc of other readers negative views on it. I could totally picture this being a HBO show like Game of Thrones!!

This was so intense, I loved it. Much more action filled than the ones before and so many good plattwists I did not see coming. The way I sobbed in the end 🥺
