I have no idea what type of book Hitchens intended to write. He stated many times in the first third that he did not intend to write his life story while doing that exact thing, sort of. He talked about what a rebellious child he was and how he dabbled in atheism before coming back to religion. The title of that section read "A Personal Journey Through Atheism." Unfortunately, Hitchens forgets that to take a journey, one must go somewhere. He doesn't, at least he does not tell about the process. He simply states the beginning and ending locations.
When he gets into the final third which he purports to be a rebuttal to people like his brother, Christopher Hitchens, he cannot stop talking about the Soviet Union and Communism, as if they invented atheism. While I found mild interest in the first two thirds of the book, he completely lost me here.
Nope.
