Leithart takes you for a guided tour of the narrative of the Old Testament, going into just enough detail at the key points, but always relating the specific details to the larger narrative. I've always struggled to do this for myself when I read through Kings and Chronicles, so I found that section especially helpful. (He also can't help himself but to address part of the NT: there is a brief review of John and Revelation right at the end of the book--but you really cannot conclude the story of the OT without the Lord Jesus, can you?)

He's especially good at identifying the use of typology and patterns within the OT itself, and these sorts of things cannot help but make you love the scriptures more.

This would make an especially good read for a Christian trying to get their head around the entire OT narrative, or any Christian who knows the OT well but wants to enjoy it afresh.
