A devastating look at West's biggest failures. Told largely with the author as part of the story, which works and doesn't work at times. There are anecdotes throughout about terrible things that happened to people in Bosnia, but largely they're used to highlight the failures of everyone else and not so much the person. Despite the author's really terrible AIDS metaphor in the early pages (in general the book is at his weakest when he's goes into rambling comparisons and opinions), he's generally percipient and ends the book with an epilogue that warns of more failures to come, which was obviously right.
