"It chafes my balls. This Pie talk chafes my balls!"

The Howlers emerge from the sea beyond the castle. Water drips from them as they fly silently over the hundred-meter-high walls, armor glistening like black beetle shells. A golden lion has been painted on each breastplate. The gold winks as lightning flashes. They land silently around us.

how are you making me feel bad for tactus

"Yes. The Stradivarian. He sold it, then felt so guilty he didn't let the sale finalize with the auction house. Made them cancel the order. He was practicing in private, shaking off some of the rust. Said he wanted to surprise you with a sonata, Darrow."

"Sevro scared the piss out of me. I wasn't looking at what he was wearing," Roque replies, drawing laughs. "I thought he'd been bitten bya squirrel and contracted rabies somehow."

"Next time I see you, I'm going to bite you."

I look into the box and see Fitchner's head staring back at me, eyeless, mouth stuffed with grapes. Ares, the one hope we had, the one man who picked me up when I was broken and gave me a chance for something better than revenge, has been butchered. And I know we are undone.

Sometimes I wonder if (Cassius) were raised a Red and I a Gold if he wouldn't have ended up a better man than l am now, and I a worse man than he ever could be.

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • Red Rising hit the ground running and wasted no time becoming a sensation. Golden Son continues the stunning saga of Darrow, a rebel forged by tragedy, battling to lead his oppressed people to freedom. NAMED ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS OF THE YEAR BY NPR, BUZZFEED, AND BOOKLIST • “Gripping . . . On virtually every level, this is a sequel that hates sequels—a perfect fit for a hero who already defies the tropes. [Grade:] A”—Entertainment Weekly As a Red, Darrow grew up working the mines deep beneath the surface of Mars, enduring backbreaking labor while dreaming of the better future he was building for his descendants. But the Society he faithfully served was built on lies. Darrow’s kind have been betrayed and denied by their elitist masters, the Golds—and their only path to liberation is revolution. And so Darrow sacrifices himself in the name of the greater good for which Eo, his true love and inspiration, laid down her own life. He becomes a Gold, infiltrating their privileged realm so that he can destroy it from within. A lamb among wolves in a cruel world, Darrow finds friendship, respect, and even love—but also the wrath of powerful rivals. To wage and win the war that will change humankind’s destiny, Darrow must confront the treachery arrayed against him, overcome his all-too-human desire for retribution—and strive not for violent revolt but a hopeful rebirth. Though the road ahead is fraught with danger and deceit, Darrow must choose to follow Eo’s principles of love and justice to free his people. He must live for more. Praise for Golden Son “Stirring . . . Comparisons to The Hunger Games and Game of Thrones series are inevitable, for this tale has elements of both.”—Kirkus Reviews “Brown writes layered, flawed characters . . . but plot is his most breathtaking strength. . . . Every action seems to flow into the next.”—NPR Don’t miss any of Pierce Brown’s Red Rising Saga: RED RISING • GOLDEN SON • MORNING STAR • IRON GOLD • DARK AGE

man. much much better than the first book.

"With shades of The Hunger Games, Ender's Game, and Game of Thrones, debut author Pierce Brown's genre-defying epic Red Rising hit the ground running and wasted no time becoming a sensation. Golden Son continues the stunning saga of Darrow, a rebel forged by tragedy, battling to lead his oppressed people to freedom from the overlords of a brutal elitist future built on lies. Now fully embedded among the Gold ruling class, Darrow continues his work to bring down Society from within. A life-or-death tale of vengeance with an unforgettable hero at its heart, Golden Son guarantees Pierce Brown's continuing status as one of fiction's most exciting new voices. Praise for Red Rising "[A] spectacular adventure. one heart-pounding ride. Pierce Brown's dizzyingly good debut novel evokes The Hunger Games, Lord of the Flies, and Ender's Game. [Red Rising] has everything it needs to become meteoric."--Entertainment Weekly "I don't know what Pierce Brown did before he started writing books, but whatever it was, he was wasting his time. Fast-paced, gripping, well-written--the sort of book you cannot put down. I am already on the lookout for the next one."--Terry Brooks, New York Times bestselling author of The Sword of Shannara "Pierce Brown has done an astounding job at delivering a powerful piece of literature that will definitely make a mark in the minds of readers."--The Huffington Post "Ender, Katniss, and now Darrow: Pierce Brown's empire-crushing debut is a sprawling vision of humanity's diaspora to the stars."--Scott Sigler, New York Times bestselling author of Nocturnal "[A] great debut. The author gathers a spread of elements together in much the same way George R. R. Martin does."--Tor.com"--

Better than RR in every possible way. Feels more mature and fleshed out. Absolutely loved every moment of it.

Absolutely loved it. Great follow-up to Red Rising which really increases the scope of the story. I was already hooked after the first, but now I'm not going to be able to stop until I consume everything in this series.

Ender's Game meets The Hunger Games in MORNING STAR , the second in an extraordinary trilogy from the New York Times bestselling author of RED RISING. 'I'm still playing games. This is just the deadliest yet.' Darrow is a rebel forged by tragedy. For years he and his fellow Reds worked the mines, toiling to make the surface of Mars inhabitable. They were, they believed, mankind's last hope. Until Darrow discovered that it was all a lie, and that the Red were nothing more than unwitting slaves to an elitist ruling class, the Golds, who had been living on Mars in luxury for generations. In RED RISING, Darrow infiltrated Gold society, to fight in secret for a better future for his people. Now fully embedded amongst the Gold ruling class, Darrow continues his dangerous work to bring them down from within. It's a journey that will take him further than he's ever been before - but is Darrow truly willing to pay the price that rebellion demands? A life-or-death tale of vengeance with an unforgettable hero at its heart, Golden Son guarantees Pierce Brown's continuing status as one of fiction's most exciting new voices.

This took me a bit of time because it's one of those books u have to pay attention to but wow... i thought i couldn't get more heart broken and emotional and yet. My heart and brain are so bamboozled with everything that happened at the end. What. A. Read.

The beginning felt a bit slow but once we were back in it, I was hooked

Sivani

It was good, not as exciting as the first but still really well written and very enjoyable. Did put me in a reading slump though.

an insane read- so much happens and there’s always in influx of new emotions

more interesting plot but had a much harder time following than red rising. I liked it. Had to really cram in most of the book in 3 days because my audiobook loan was expiring

Finn James

Didn't find it as compelling as the first, but still an enjoyable, brutal read. I did love the character development (and my boy Sevro), and I'm excited to see how things turn out in the third book.

This book is non stop!! There literally isn’t a moment of peace. Highly recommend the graphic audio!

If the first book felt like a Hunger Games rip off, this book fully leaned into its imitation of Dune. He literally quoted “plans within plans”, but I don’t think it’s bad to pull inspiration from a classic, I’m just curious if and how much it will abandon Herbert’s core commentary in his world of space politics. Guess I’ll find out in Morning Star 💫

I really liked this, it was hard to follow up the first one but I think this delivered, what I liked most is that the first one left a lot unanswered and also focused more on the fighting, and this one was more introspective and focused more on the politicking, which was my jam

Idk man some of these “twists” and shock factor moments are getting exhausting. Still an entertaining read though. This series would make good big budget action movies.

the plot only GETS BETTER! love seeing a writer grow. pushes me to ask questions about society in a similar way to hunger games. excellent read. onto book 3!

Nina

This book was fast-paced and full of action and political scheming. Author does a fantastic job writing war and all the tragedy that comes with it. Great follow-up to Red Rising, and looking forward to next.

Jenny Engel

Not as gripping for me as the first. Got lost in all the names and space talk. There’s a joke about how this is not the Iliad near the end and sometimes I did feel like we were veering into unnecessary confusion. BUT that ending…woke me up real quick.
