I made it about half way through the book before I just called it quits. The base idea of pirates that can walk on water is a decent one, but the writing style and the intelligence of the plot decisions that the characters are driven to make was frustrating for me as a reader. I eventually just didn't want to pick the book up again after a while. It's not entirely devoid of value - I could definitely see a young reader enjoying this, as I did when I was younger - but I can definitely say that the reread value as an adult reader just isn't there.

I'm not going to recommend this book to others on that basis. Be advised that there is a lot of side character death in this book.
