Waverly is one of the popular, intelligent kids in high school; Marshall is a rough kid with some drug issues. The two connect....but is it real? Waverly, at night, ends up as a sort of ghostly presence where Marshall is...but both remember what happened in the light of day. This connection draw the two together but will they ever put their relationship out there to the social system in high school? This book was a decent mix of paranormal and romance and interesting characters. I enjoyed it. I received a copy of this book from Amazon Vine in exchange for a honest review.

LOVED how a different concept was added to the typical YA romance. This book was definitely one of a kind. I do wish the ending was expanded a bit more with how she evolved from her experiences. But maybe the author had hopes for a second book.

I have a feeling some people wouldn’t connect with this book the way I did and that is okay because I just love it so much. 
I recognize the gross truths and the scary hidden secrets and I felt so many of the same things these characters felt when I was in high school that it hit really close to home. 
Stories like these are this super important thing while simultaneously being this harmful thing, but the message of the story is important to high school me. 
I fawn over passionate, poetic love. I fawn over characters that only want better but feel too trapped within themselves to make the changes they must to get better. 
I want stories exploring deeper parts of the human psyche and social orders and expectations. I want more always. 

While this story satisfied a part of me, my craving for more exploration is aching. I want smart, sharp books like this that talk about Heathers and Fight Club and horror movies and the feeling of your heart hurting. I like being able to cry over the robot being real. And someone saying that is okay.

This kept me up all night, and I read it in one fell swoop. Magical realism imbues Yovanoff's latest, as Waverly finds herself drawn to Marshall in her dreams. It feels like Waverly is really there, but when they meet at school, Waverly must keep her proper, popular alpha girl mask on. Plus, Waverly and Marshall's all-consuming self-destructive habits may keep them apart in reality forever.

Haunting, a bit of a head twister, and just different enough to keep me guessing. Love that in a book.
