If there is one thing I like about fantasy, it's the fact that the authors can let themselves go completely in the world building. And it’s a successful bet for Shadowscent. I found the univers very well coordinated, the characters sufficiently developed for me to appreciate them, while keeping a balance that makes that for once, we don't have the impression that we have forgotten one on the side of the road, also I didn't find myself hating one by seeing it too much.
A world based on scents and fragrances is not something I had ever seen, especially that worked. The book keeps its promises, even though I found it quite complicated to dive directly into it, you have to take the time to understand the world's details before clinging to the story, but the author allows it by giving a lot of descriptions from the start.
Another thing I can blame is the fact that magic as such, the magic system, appears only late in history.
My last point, which is somathing I rarely say, is that I don’t think the English language is for everyone. Perhaps simply because there are a number of plants and ingredients's names in English that I didn't know, or example that the bay tree is called bay tree, yes yes I learn every day, or that the author likes beautiful sentences. 
Perhaps not everyone will find the courage to read the original version.

S'il y a bien une chose que j'aime dans le fantastique, c'et le fait les auteurs peuvent se lâcher complètement dans le world building. Et c'est un pari réussi pour Shadowscent. J'ai trouvé l'ensemble très bien coordonné, les personnages suffisamment développés pour que je les apprécie, tout en gardant un équilibre qui fait que pour une fois, on n'a pas spécialement l'impression qu'on en a oublié un sur le bord de la route, et je ne me retrouve pas à en détester un à force de le voir. 
Un monde basé sur les senteurs et les parfums n'est pas quelque chose que j'avais déjà vu, surtout aussi travaillé. Le livre tient ses promesses, même si j'ai trouvé qu'il était assez compliqué de se plonger directement dedans, il faut prendre le temps de comprendre l'univers avant de s'accrocher à l'histoire, ce que l'auteur permet en donnant énormément de descriptions dès le départ. 
Une autre chose que je pourrai lui reprocher est le fait que la magique en tant que telle, le système magique n'apparaît que tardivement dans l'histoire, ce qui est dommage. 
Ma dernière remarque, que je ne fais que rarement, est qu'à mes yeux l'anglais n'est pas accessible à tout le monde. Peut-être simplement car il y a un certain nombre de plantes et d'ingrédients en anglais que je ne connaissais pas, sachez par exemple que le laurier se dit bay tree, oui oui j'en apprends tous les jours, ou que l'auteur aime les belles tournures de phrases, tout le monde ne trouvera peut-être pas le courage de le lire en version originale.

I really thought I was going to have a romance between Nisai and Ash. I hoped for it with all my heart. From the beginning I felt that their relationship was more loving than friendly. But, in all logic, it had to be between him and Rakel, which does not prevent me from being disappointed. However, their romance did not seem to me to be a key stone of history, which I also appreciate.
To be honest, I found that they discovered the different ingredients pretty easily, for a such "ancien and forgotten" stuff, and also, being catched up only once or two by the Rangers ? Are you sure they're the best trained soldiers of the empire ? 
On the other hand the fact that Ash is the last ingredient to cure Nisai, although predictable, is interesting from a scriptwriting point of view because it reopens the door to the history of the ancient Gods, and god I like History aspects in fantasy. As for the doctor who wants to announce his three thousand titles at the beginning, from the start he was too creepy not to be on the wrong side.
The end of the book was the best part in my opinion, which is a good sign. I read it in one stroke, and yet there are enough unknown elements left for the second volume, which was released a little while ago in english, to be just as interesting.

J'ai vraiment cru que j'allais avoir droit à une romance entre Nisai et Ash. Je l'ai espéré de toutes mes forces. Dès le début j'avais l'impression que leur relation était plus amoureuse qu'amicale. 
Mais bon, en toute logique, il fallait que ce soit entre lui et Rakel, ce qui ne m'empêche pas d'être déçue. Cependant, leur romance ne m'a pas parue être une pierre angulaire de l'histoire, ce que j'apprécie tout autant.
Pour être honnête j'ai trouvé qu'ils découvraient les différents ingrédients assez facilement, pour quelque chose d'aussi "ancien et oublié", et aussi, ils n'ont été rattrapé par les Rangers qu'une fois ou deux ? Vous êtes sûr que ce sont les soldats les mieux entraînés de l'empire ?
Par contre qu'Ash soit le dernier ingrédient pour soigner Nisai, bien que prévisible, est intéressant d'un point de vue scénaristique car cela réouvre la porte à l'histoire des anciens Dieux, et qu'est-ce que j'aime l'Histoire en fantasy. Quant au médecin qui veut qu'on annonce ses trois mille titres au début, dès le départ il était trop glauque pour ne pas être du mauvais côté. 
La fin du livre était la meilleure partie à mon avis, ce qui est un bon signe. Je l'ai lue d'un seul trait, et pourtant il reste suffisamment d'éléments inconnus pour que le deuxième volume, sorti il y a peu en version originale, soit tout aussi intéressant. (hide spoiler)]
