I read this at a time when I was rediscovering poetry. I think I am not alone in having been burned by poetry in my late teen years - for a while it just felt too cringey to go near a poem. Especially heavy poems... it reminded me too much of the angst that pervaded that time.

So in 2014/2015 when I stumbled across some poets that I loved, I was on a quest to find more poets to love. And this sampler book of poetry that stuck a chord with these many men seemed like a good option.

Through it I discovered/rediscovered so very many poems and poets that similarly struck a chord with me. Yes, some of them made me cry. And laugh. And I was grateful for it.

A nicely curated anthology of poems that made for a pleasant read in the park. However, I wish there had been more range and variety in the backgrounds of women who had selected the poems; it seemed most of them were strictly rooted in the entertainment industry and the vast majority of poems and voices were Eurocentric.
