I wanted to write this book at 4.5 but the more I thought about this book the more I realized that for me it was a 5 star read.

Poemsia follows the story of Verity Wolf that becomes a very famous poet in the pop world with the help of her best friend. There is clearly so much more to the story, but I think the best way to go into it blindly. For me, this book did everything right. The depiction of Instafame, friendship, women supporting other women, cyberbullying... Everything was simply done right and it was such an important book as well. I may think twice before hating on famous people on confessions sites, LOL. Overall, this was simply a new amazing addition to Leav's books. She is for sure my favorite poet, but with two prose books that were 5 reads for me I think she is sure to become one of my favorite novelists as well.

My only reproaches to the books are that I wish the story telling was more besutiful, more lyrical and descriptive since I've seen in her previous novel what a magician Lang can be with words. And I think the book should have been a bit longer as there were too many vital events happening right after another and it was a bit hard to keep on.

As being said, this book is surely very dear to me. That ending was one of the most perfect I've ever read. Hooray for friendship goals!

This was the first time I read Lang Leav's YA novel. I love her poetry, I read all of her poetry books, I bought all of 'em and that including her YA books, Sad Girl and Poemsia. I put high expectation for this book and, gosh, the cover is so catchy. I was excited about the first few chapters, yet I found it a bit annoying and cheezy eventually. It's paced to fast as most readers would say and I wanna give my honest opinion about the characters. Varety, I think she's supposed to be the sweet, flawless leading character who dream to become a poet. That's great, but I didn't find anything in the story that explained why she deserved what she had. The fame she got was so spontaneous and lack of effort. Well, she did write the poems, but when? She's so annoying and I honestly think that her best friend was the one who put so much effort into all she got, I give her all the credits. Speaking of her best friend, Jess, I think she's the one I love from all characters in the story. She's supportive and bold, the kind of best friend a girl could ask for. I love how she stood for Varety's dream, how she defended her, she's great. Sash, there's nothing much I could say about him. He's kind, handy, gorgeous with his emerald eyes, yet still not a strong character as the love interest for the leading character. Penelope, hah, she's just a jealous girl, typical. And here comes the character I hate so much since the first time Varety met her, yes, it's none other than Mena Rhodes, she's the evil witch, I wonder why on earth all of her clones didn't have a gut to speak about what she did for all of them. 

It's really hard for me to not really like a book from my favorite poet. I did finish the book tho. However, this is my opinion about the book and the characters. I'd love to know if you think otherwise.

A complete gem of a novel, I loved everything about this.

Verity Wolf is a young woman living in Sydney, Australia where she helps her grandad run his second hand book store. Writing poetry is her way of dealing with some of the traumas she she had to cope with. Her best friend Jess is the only person who has ever read these poems and with her encouragement Verity begins to post her poems on Instagram.

Addressing the fickleness of social media and the so-called cancel culture and the importance of friendship and loyalty, this is a wonderful young adult book that also strongly appealed to this not-so-young adult.

Highly recommended.
