Having known little about the topic of transgenderism prior, I found Sprinkle's treatment to be empathy building, informative, nuanced and very helpful. He covers a lot of psychological/medical, theological/biblical and practical ground, all while weaving in stories of real trans* people and encouraging empathy and Christ-like love (as in his book "People to Be Loved"). I especially liked how he showed that so many of our ideas about what it means to be a man or a woman are culturally conditioned.

Conflicted on how to review this one. Ultimately, I don’t agree with several of the conclusions the author makes. I think there’s a bit too much emphasis placed on equating trans experience with mental health concerns, and I think some of the theological conclusions are a bit too narrow. 

However, I don’t think anyone can deny that the overall tone and approach is full of grace and honest attempts to navigate the world in a loving way. I am inspired to disagree gracefully, and continue to live life in an inclusive, loving way.
