Promposal es uno de esos libros que te llena de arrugas. ¿Cómo es eso? Porque sonríes como idiota en cada paso de página.

La palabra Promposal no me era conocida, eso sí, lo asociaba con propuesta pero hasta ahí nada más. Si tienes curiosidad, Promposal viene de Prom (la fiesta de PROMoción) y Proposal (propuesta en inglés), lo que me da a entender que este tipo de eventos son importantes (a duras penas a mí me lograron arrastrar a mi graduación, una vez que salí del colegio no quise volver por nada del mundo). Fue un poco chocante ver que soy una rareza hasta para eso. Aclarado eso, pasemos al libro.

Promposal es adorable a más no poder, es una de esas rarezas en el mundo Young Adult de ahora ¿En qué sentido? Es que es un libro limpio, por no encontrar otra palabra. Me hace recordar mucho a los primeros libros que leí, tuve la suerte de encontrarme con cosas bastante suaves al inicio pero que me dieron una base sólida en mis gustos de libros. ¡Y ya casi no hay de esos libros! Claro, puedes leer libros que sean así publicados hace 10 o 15 años. Pero ¿publicados actualmente? Es bastante difícil.

Quizá no sea del agrado de quienes buscan drama adulta o cosas explícitas, como a los que ya nos hemos acostumbrado con el New Adult, pero si lo que quieres es recomendar un libro a alguien que empieza a leer, Promposal me parece perfecto porque no solo tiene romance de chica-conoce-chico sino también bastante LGTB, cosa que me encanta. Y es uno de los problemas de libros publicados hace 10 o 15 años, ellos no tienen tanta variedad como los de ahora.

Así que sí, Promposal es la mejor combinación entre la inocencia de los libros de antes más la aceptación de épocas modernas.

This was a fast read and not a bad book. Though sometimes I was confused on what character pov I was reading because they sounded the same.

I really liked the idea of Promposal when I first read the synopsis. I anticipated a cute, charming read. That's exactly what I got. 

This isn't the first time I've seen the over-the-top invitations to prom (or another dance) depicted. Boy, things have changed since I was in high school. (In oh so very many ways.) But it's cute. I like the creativity of the guys in the book, and the fact that they're willing to put themselves out there in a very public way. Sometimes it's a good thing, other times it's not. That part of the book was fun to follow. 

Promposal is told from the alternating POV of best friends Camilla and Joshua. But, in a somewhat surprising change, they are not interested in each other. Camilla is crushing hardcore on Benjamin, a guy in one of her classes. Joshua is in love with their other close friend, Ethan. Things get complicated when the promposals start and Camilla is asked by Zach, a guy she barely knows, and Ethan asks Joshua to help him come up with the perfect way to ask Noah to the prom. Everything's all twisted around and good ol' high school drama ensues. 

I liked the use of alternating POV here – especially since it wasn't of love interests but friends. I just wish Camilla and Joshua's voices had been stronger and more unique. They were too similar to me. I liked the diversity in the book. Joshua, while hiding his feelings for Ethan, was "out" in all the ways that mattered. His classmates and family knew who he was. 

All in all, Promposal was a quick and fun, uncomplicated, read. What was missing for me most, however, was a connection to the characters. I liked them. I was interested in what happened with them. But, I never felt like I fully "got" them. That lack of connection didn't keep me from enjoying the book. It just didn't take me to that other level you find when you really love the character(s). It was a realistic read with diversity, parents who were present and an overall good message.

This book wasn’t anything special, but it was a cute and fun romantic read!

It was told in duo POV by Camilla and Joshua, two best friends struggling with unrequited love and prom dates. Camilla likes Benjamin, but he barely speaks to her. Then, another guy she barely knows asks her to prom in a very public way and she feels obligated to say yes. Josh wants to ask Ethan to prom, but Ethan beats him by asking for his help crafting a perfect promposal for this other guy he likes.

Promposals are a big part of the story, as we can see lots of other minor couples get their own versions of that and how everyone handles promposals differently and how much of a difference does it make on their relationships. I think the big question was whether what matters is making a big, flashy promposal, or the feeling and meaning behind asking someone to go to prom with you.

I like that Camilla and Josh had such a great friendship and really helped each other out with their romantic struggles and despite all that they still had good personalities and were strong enough to realize when they deserved better than the cards they were given.

I did like the characters and I thought they were sweet, but there wasn’t anything memorable about the story or either of the romances. There wasn’t any specific thing that bothered me, but overall it just wasn’t a “wow” sort of book.
