A Touch of Frost

I remember really enjoying watching Frost when I lived at home. My Mum especially loved watching UK police procedurals, and Frost was interesting because he was a hot-mess, to put it in modern terms. So I thought - why not give reading Frost a go? 

It was fine. But I don't think it lived up to the character I loved on TV. The writing is a little dated as well, as in its quest for accuracy to police attitudes, it leaves a little (a lot) to be desired in developing female characters beyond handy plot points, or background set pieces. 

I did enjoy the seemingly coincidental way all the cases came together. And the way Frost dealt with the eventual reveal in a near-ego-less way. But I guess overall, it wasn't enough to live up to my fond memories of the TV show, which is a shame.

I'd probably sum up by saying it was fine. But I won't return to these books over the TV show.
