Talk about a blast from the past. This reminds me why I freaking loved R.L. Stine growing up. From Goosebumps to the Fear Street books, I freaking miss this. There is something nostalgic about it
Quick sort of style of writing, chapters are pretty short which can be expected. Character descriptions are pretty quick and easy. Not too much, mostly hair and eye color and a trait of that Character and that's it
Each chapter ends in a weird sort of cliff hanger way that keeps the reader wanting to turn the page and read on to see what happens. 
The story is somewhat set more modernly with talk of Facebook and Netflix. This way of story honestly reminds me of a B movie horror movie. It is a little goofy at times trying to be scary.
Decent horror and tense scenes. Obviously nothing scary, but pleasantly creepy and just overall fun to read. 

Both stories are told in a first person pov using I. They hint at the narrator/ character talking right to the reader.
Attempt at relatable characters, especially as a teen. Though at times a bit recycling if character traits. Characters from the first book make an appearance in this one. Nice little tie in
