"Darkness isn't one shade, sweetheart." Three centuries ago, Molly Darling's ancestors signed a contract in blood-daemon blood-to protect themselves from harm. On the eve she turns nineteen, Molly leaves for her birthday party against her parent's wishes, sick of their warnings about her "betrothal to a demon." Except that she's very much betrothed, and he's very much a demon-one who's only agreed to the nuptials to use Molly's ancient daemon powers. Brash, arrogant, and built like a Greek god, Tensley Knight keeps showing up to save Molly from otherworldly attacks, only to insult her a moment later. As Molly learns more about the demon world, she realizes two things: that her family's safety depends on a successful marriage, while any chance of freedom she'll ever have calls for Tensley's demise. Yet sometimes Molly spots a tortured soul beyond those liquid grey eyes, and there's no denying the way her skin tingles when Tensley touches it. In Vein of Love, safety requires sacrifice, foe becomes lover, and one must decide whether to kiss...or to kill.

meh. It was good when it was good, and bad when it was every other time

so many things to say about this book.

let's start with the thing that i loved, and that is the lore this book seemed to draw from and around which the story seemed to be written. vein of love is the first installment in a paranormal romance series that focuses mainly on the lore of all the different types of demons and the like. we've got succubi, soul eaters, daemons and of course, we couldn't have a book about demons without their counterparts, the demon hunters. i think what vein of love did best was introduce that lore and use it to build a story in the real world where all these different supernatural creatures actually exist and live amongst humans. the hierarchy of the society the demons are a part of and everything that had to do with the supernatural was what really hooked me in in this book. the demon hunters were also an interesting addition to the story serving as a sort of enemy for our main characters.

and i mention the lore because i think it could be, and i'm hoping it will be, much more exploited in the subsequent books. it was one of the things that most stood out for me while reading the book, and the thing i kept wanting to know more about. it's been a long ass time since i've read a pnr book, and reading this made me remember why i love the genre and the books that incorporate such topics into them so much.

and while i enjoyed all i said above, i mainly had problems with the characters. i feel like i couldn't connect with them, and therefore, couldn't keep my interest in them, and instead i found myself more intrigued towards some of the side characters. that was mainly due to the fact that i found the two main characters quite annoying. tensley and molly were characters that made a lot of annoying or inconsistent choices, that changed their minds from one second to another, and characters that i honestly couldn't keep up with because of all those reasons. sometimes one of them would say something and the next second -without exaggerating, literally in the next second- say the complete opposite thing. and i guess after a while i started getting a bit annoyed at them and their decisions. i know i'm amongst the minority but i really couldn't get behind either of them, especially molly. some of the things that she did fell completely under the 'are you really this dumb?' umbrella and i kind of started losing my shit after a while. regardless of how i felt towards the two main characters, i am really interested in the side characters and hopefully, tensley and molly will grow up a bit in the second book and start making better decisions.

all in all, i think vein of love set up for what could be a great paranormal romance series, and hopefully, the rest of the books will live up to that. there's a lot of ground work for really great storylines and plotlines and i can't wait to see where it all goes.

Nope can't finish it. From the cover i expect it to be more NA and mature. But the main character is so native and stupid that I can't continue reading anymore

My gosh, it's been a while since I've read something like this. This re-read was great!
