The Rush

The Rush The Siren Series Book #1

A life not her own—A future already decided. Every facet of Ivy Pierce’s life is meticulously planned out and plotted. Cynical and jaded by sixteen, Ivy’s only hope is to escape the legacy she was born into. She has a plan, a carefully thought out, feasible plan. She just has to play by the rules until everything falls into place. Unfortunately as predictable as her life can be, she never sees Ryder Sutton coming. He tumbles into her life unimpressed and untouched by her and the life she lives. He’s an enigma to her. A gorgeous, frustrating, sincere mystery and a complete phenomenon in the ugly world she lives in. What blooms between them is a fiercely intense attraction that cannot be ignored. Even though they would both be better off without each other—Even if both their lives depend on staying apart.

I figure that I might as well warn you that this isn't a praising review. I had a lot of things I didn't like. Here goes nothing. 1. There were literally so many triggers, and I don't feel as if many of them were handled as delicately as they should have been. I mean. The number of times "like razor blades/razors" is used kinda contributes to that and it just made me uncomfortable- and that stuff doesn't generally bother me as a whole. 2. Nix is a disgusting perv and I got all kinds of gross feelings whenever it talked about him, or someone brought him up. Seriously. I'm not sure that should have been in a YA book, unless it was handled with more class (not ragging on the author, just pointing out my own opinions here). 3. There were so many grammatical errors, my head was spinning. This could have just been something that got overlooked in the editing process- it happens, no biggie. But also, why all the ellipsis? That wasn't necessary. 4. The names threw me off so much and at one point I got people mixed up, but that's a really small thing. 5. THE BIGGEST THING THAT KINDA IRRITATED ME: if you're going to continuously write "f-ing" you might as well just say the word. That's how I feel about that. Overall, things escalated quickly. The book started to drag (I kept checking progress and didn't understand why it hadn't ended yet), and I really hated the ending. Like, a lot. The revealing of Ivy's secret took way too long, and it was so obvious, but maybe that's because I've read books about Sirens before, or know general mythology. I don't know. A lot of it just left a bad taste in my mouth. This isn't a terrible book, don't get me wrong. I don't regret reading it and I might read it again sometime. I loved Ryder and the band, and the general feel of the little friends group. It's an original spin, albeit a skeevy one, but it was a nice change the typical things. Just tread carefully!
