Last book for 2022.

As with many second books in a series, there's not a lot of action. It's mostly slow burn character building. It's setting things up for the next big event or confrontation.

The visuals remain amazing. I love the use of saturated colors and the ways color is used to build character and unite related characters.

I have been sat here for two days trying to figure out what to say. OK, maybe being actively feverish and out of it due to COVID did take up a solid portion of that.

It was OK. I still do not entirely agree with Smythe's approach to retelling / adapting mythology.

Lore Olympus volume two picks up straight after the end of volume one, which was fantastic, despite me finishing volume one over a year ago. I didn't feel like it was hard to get back into the plot and thanks to the fantastic colour concept in the artwork, I managed to remember who was who, which is always a worry when there is a lot of characters.

I loved the insights into the characters; a slight backstory to Hades and Persephone, but also the other characters and discovering more of their stories, too.

However, there seemed something missing. This volume just didn't feel as absorbing as volume one, and I felt a need to continue with the series immediately. That urgency isn't quite there to read volume three (although, I still want to read it this month).

That all being said, I did really enjoy volume two and there is still an intrigue to see where she goes with her take on Hades and Persephone.

🤖 sexual assault, being around an abuser, and age gap (but not really 'cuz they don't really "age" like us hoo-mans)

The story of Lore Olympus is filled with strong themes, but it is also a graphic novel that tells an enticing story that highlights these themes at the same time. They are not used as plot devices, but rather are integrated into the narrative and suitably complement the topic and trigger.

The Lore Olympus series is an excellent choice if you are looking for a compelling story. It combines a realistic approach to mythical gods and goddesses with an interesting plot that is engaging. This graphic novel makes use of the mini-episodes or 'issues' from Webtoon to allow each theme and chapter to be explored. It works perfectly from Webtoon to graphic novel form.

Smythe's artwork in Lore Olympus is outstanding. [If this included smut, I would have ✨no✨ idea what to do 🍆. I know there is a smut Hades story out there, "Touch of Darkness" or something, right?] Hades and Kore are ✨literally✨ everything to me. As fictional beings, I would both fight and die for them. 🥹🥰

As always, the contrast between the pink and blue color schemes is the most appealing characteristic of this volume. One of my favorite episodes is "Episode 40: Hide and Seek" which appears towards the end; it is the blacked-out sequence, and it is easy to identify because it is one of the only sections that have a darker tone on the edges if looking at it from the side. It is ✨soooo✨ damn good!

It is always a pleasure to read Lore Olympus because the element of emotion it presents is always entertaining and awe-inspiring. My emotional attachment to a graphic novel has been long overdue, and I never fail to be moved by the connection between Kore's vulnerability and Hades' sensual isolation, no matter how many times I read it.

It is a great, well-rounded graphic novel that I recommend to anyone.

I am a sucker for these books. I hate Apollo for what he did and because he is entitled little brat. Persephone’s relationship with Cerberus is my favorite thing in the entire world.

While I don't approve of the recent turn of events, I can not in any way say that the choices the characters make are out of character or a false narrative. I've only known them for a relatively short amount of time, yet every new development is both surprising and totally in line with what has so far been developed. And even though certain characters make certain choices, the way Smythe continues to grow their relationships together is the kind of craftwork truly only seen in the likes of greek epic poems. 
It's in the way the characters believably continue to have lives outside of the main narrative. It's in the way the art seems to almost move as your eyes go from frame to frame. And more than anything. It's in the way the characters all cope and grieve and live- believably- with the trauma and scars that have been left on them. 
A beautiful contemplation of trauma that is both entertaining and altering.
