I must say, I don't think I was quite ready to face Broken Pieces. I've been exposed to raw poetry about similar topics, but it has been awhile and nowhere near as deep. 

Rachel is a new author to me, so I wasn't sure what to expect. I read the book in one sitting. Rachel bears her soul, explicitly, through each essay. That takes an amount of courage not many have.

I did have a disconnect because some essays didn't go deep enough for me to really "get it", and also, I'll admit I've been quite fortunate, I've never been through such experiences. Therefore, it was almost like an outsider looking in trying hard to walk through the walls and step into the moment and see what was going on.

I have much respect for this work though. She does eloquently tell her life stories and experiences in a way that bares all. Take it or leave it.

I have new found respect for the author and certainly understand, now, where she's coming from with her content. This was an eye opening read. If you can handle being taken behind the scenes of someone's nightmares and walking with them through it, I urge this read. 

Even with that bit of disconnect, it was still awesome, telling and moving.
