An ultra-cliched detective/crime "thriller" that drifts through an overly complex narrative throughout which the author displays appalling laziness on multiple levels. He paints a drab word full of depraved characters, which at first glance may fool others in a semblance of laudable/engaging writing, but which is really just one of the laziest creative strategies that exists to conjure an emotional reaction to content. Is it easier to depress a reader, or to engage him/her in a delightful, uplifting narrative (like the previous novel I read, which was amazing)? 
The character development is limited to descriptions of the depressing outfits of every. single. character. 
And the ending? Well instead of an ending, it feels like the author got so lazy he couldn't be bothered to write the extra 100 pages necessary to tie everything up, so just decided to stop. Oooooh, soooo creative.... Rolling my eyes.
