this book is so different compared to all her other ones. i think it might took 1st place finally beating eleanor and park after 10 years? (we will see if that’s true after a week) i can’t imagine ever reading something like this from rainbow, i love both characters as adults and i love them together a lot, it such a slow burn, and we are awarded with last quarter of the book of them together, cary, the man you are, i know no one like you exist, shiloh, you deserve the happiness you finally received, the spicy scene even got me in tears, definitely will be reread it soon, but i will be thinking about this book a long time after

If I ever rate a Rainbow Rowell book less than 5 stars, I’ve been kidnapped and it’s me calling for help.

i really wanted to like this more and i did have fun with it but i felt a lot of it could have been cut and made it better, also the reliance on dialogue was CRAZY even for rainbow

Loved this extremely real life romance, especially with the Omaha setting. Maybe a little gen-x-core for me? But heartwarming all the same.

As a fan of Rowell, it hurts me to give this such a low rating. As usual she writes angst, messy characters, and yearning really well. There were some banger lines in this, and the spice was written well. 

Now, for the other side: the writing was tedious (a lot of short sentences strung together, lots of repetition), the miscommunication trope made up 85% of the story, it’s too much of a slow burn romance (thank god for the HEA), and the characters were hard to relate to (more than once they made me contemplate ripping my skin off). Usually, her FMC is someone I feel connected to but that wasn’t the case this time. I also feel like a lot of the emotional moments stayed surface-level, something I’m not used to in Rowell’s writing. 

Unfortunately, this was not her best work.
