I feel ambivalent about the ending of this duology. It wasn’t terrible. It wasn’t my favorite. At times it dragged, at times I flew through it….and then once “the big reveal happened”…the story seemed to wrap up and end pretty quickly. There were characters that I had hoped were going to be a bigger part of the story but were quickly swept aside. I do think the strongest part of this book was it’s characters. I adored the two main characters and even the secondary characters were so enjoyable…I sometimes wished for their POV’s. Overall, it was a good ending.

3.5 stars.

This book was such a disappointment to me. I loved scavenge the stars, but this book was missing everything that made the first book great.
The plot plodded from point to point, with characters coming and going out at will. There was nothing explosive, and one could argue the most explosive plot point happened off the page.
The romance also felt like an afterthought, with Amaya and Cayo not ever having a heart to heart or seeming to work out their shit.
I was so looking forward to this book, and it left me so empty.

The stunning conclusion to this YA fantasy duology, set in an opulent world filled with risk, romance, and revenge. For seven long years, while she was imprisoned on a debtor's ship, Amaya Chandra had one plan: to survive. But now, survival is not enough. She has people counting on her; counting on her for protection, for leadership, for vengeance. And after escaping Moray by the skin of her teeth, she's determined to track down the man who betrayed her and her friends. Cayo Mercado has lost everything: his money, his father, his reputation. Everything except his beloved sister. But he's well on his way to losing her, too, with no way to afford the treatment for her deadly illness. In a foreign empire also being consumed by ash fever, Cayo has no choice but to join Amaya in uncovering the mystery of the counterfeit currency, the fever, and how his father was involved in their creation. But Cayo still hasn't forgiven Amaya for her earlier deception, and their complicated feelings for each other are getting harder and harder to ignore. Through glittering galas, dazzling trickery, and thrilling heists, Cayo and Amaya will learn that the corruption in Moray goes far deeper than they know, and in the end the only people they can trust are each other.
