Gild The Plated Prisoner Series I
Reviews

This book was a fun adventure - will I continue the series? Likely not it just wasn’t really my jam.
The adventure is high but the spice is light IMO

wildly entertaining

I didn’t expect much when starting this because I had seen people say it starts very slow, and I agree. BUT! For some reason, I never got bored or upset at just how slow this book was. The world building was very interesting and I genuinely liked spending so much time with our MC and seeing into her world. And then although the ending was predictable, it was still written well and I enjoyed it. Excited to start the second book.

i feel like this is a type of book you either really love or really hate. if you’re looking for a romantasy, this is not it. this is incredibly dark and very graphic (like more than one very intense trigger heavy scenes) and it was basically entirely world building. but i’m so into it. very into it. and i really like the FMC because her strength is not like sassy, strong, power. her strength was her optimism and empathy and resiliency.

i’m definitely intrigued! the world building was not confusing and easy to follow. I cannot wait to read the second book with how this one ended. content warnings for rape, attempted rape, abuse, violence, stockholm syndrome, murder and blood. pls be careful with this book. chapter 36 has the rape scene.

Easy read. Not exactly the most evolved writing, but it’s good for the masses. Quite predictable and spice heavy.

ugh, WOW. I completely devoured this book. I can’t wait to keep reading and unlock everyone’s secrets (cause I just know people are telling lies—i’m looking at you Auren AND Midas). But yeah, the book definitely got me in the feels. I laughed, I cried, and most of all, I wanted to give Auren a big old hug. Check the trigger warnings before you read this book!

still torn between 3,5 and 4☆ reading this was a nice change up from the bulk of classics i've consumed over the past weeks. i really needed something undemanding, and this was a perfect fit. though the ammount of (sexual) abuse, and the protagonist's massive stockholm syndrome made me very uncomfortable at times, the plot was interesting enough to make me want to read the next book as well.

3,5 ☆

Pls check trigger warnings before reading ittt
I really enjoyed this book. Yes indeed is full of smut, it even opens with one such scene but unlike others is has rich character development and really well-written plot. Totally recommend it !!
(I hope midas dies and stop manhandling auren)

elke keer dat ik denk dat het niet erger kan worden.. wordt het nog erger cause wat the fuck is dit boek hahaha echt slecht geen aanrader het is letterlijk 350 paginas pure onzin en is tijdverspilling

3/5 I can say that I put off reading this series a bit, because the reviews about the first book are not the best, but surprisingly I liked it and I will definitely continue this series. It was only the first book in the series and the plot is already interesting, I mean I didn’t expect the plot twist. The only problem in this book is MEN, which is not suprising because they are usually the problem but seriously men in this series are freaking pigs. The only one who was normal, well, you'll find out when you read what happened to him, but that was the look on my face. Now our main character, it’s only first book so I hope she will get a grip and stop being manipulated by men. She had some great moments tho. I’m kinda mad at myself that I started reading this series right now, because next and final book will be released in June 2023 and I had to wait but I have no self control so yeah.

I FINISHED A NOVELLLLLLLLL FINALLYYY I THINK THIS SERIES IS GOING TO PULL ME OUT OF MY SLUMP!!! But it’s bad.. like it did pull me out of my slump but so bad It was something I hadn’t read a concept for before and the mystery of the MC pulled me in and I couldn’t not investigate, next thing you know i’ve read 150 pages in one night, this was a two nighter! Easy read, the author has an informal way of writing fantasy, it felt like modern speech which for this time i didn’t mind too much. It was cringey at times but reading through it was okay. The triggering scenes will make your stomach turn and the nasty men in it will make you sick but if you want a quick read with an interesting story and a fast plot i recommend this. But if you feel like you will get triggered by SA and sex trafficking/slavery I wouldn’t risk your peace of mind or mental health. It’s not the best book out there but it’s a decent read. I’m excited to see the MC find herself and her strength in the next one
MAJOR TRIGGER WARNING for Sexual Assault, Violence against women, and Demeaning Speech against female characters.

¿Era necesario la escena de abuso?

I went into this book fully blind, I had no ideas what it was supposed to be about. I was pleasantly surprised because the plot was really good it kept me invested in the story. I don’t want to give anything away but the first book definitely leaves room for further discovery, there’s some secrets that have yet to be revealed and leaves you wanting to know what’s going to happen next. I really liked this book I am excited to start the next one to see where the story takes me. 🖤

Read if u want to hate men even more than u already do

I liked the book, but the most descriptive long winded chapters were luls in the story line. Maybe it’s supposed to be character building but I was tired of waiting for it to get good. It didn’t get good til the end which was a massive cliffhanger.
I have a feeling I should have skipped this book and just started on the second book

This book wasn't my usual sort of read but I enjoyed it nonetheless. I felt like it was a setup for the books to follow since nothing much happened in this book. It was fun to read and I really loved Auren, she was funny and relatable and her inner thoughts always made me laugh. I wasn't sure what to expect when I started this series but I did end up enjoying it

3.5 STARS:
The people who said this was very binge-able were not kidding. I technically read this in about 3 days. Whenever I picked it up, I could not put it down.
Still, PLEASE check trigger warnings because it was very hard to read despite how fast I read this. It was dark and sometimes depressing. Still, I loved Auren, so she was the main reason I kept going.
I could tell this was a set-up book. The world and its characters and political climate were the main focus of this book. Those who want only a romance will be very disappointed by this. In fact, I hesitate to say that there was ANY romance other than one little crumb we got at the very end.
Still, this setup was well done and well executed. I wouldn't say it leaves on a cliffhanger, but it does leave it open-ended. This is definitely only the very beginning of the story, and I cannot wait to see where it goes!

I’m marking this as finished even tho I DNFed it just so I can write something.
I am literally shocked at how bad this book was. It has great reviews and booktok seems to really like it…but what in the Sam’s hell was this?? The writing is incredibly childish, and Auren is insufferably weak. That sounds harsh because Stockholm syndrome and whatnot but for me personally I’m not interested in watching her (maybe?) get over that. And is there a different love interest eventually because Midas is literally ew. And most importantly, don’t tease me with fae and then not have them show up even 3/4 of the way through the book thanks.

I liked it buuuuut I hope that king midas dies and that he stops manipulating auren (commander rip you interest me too much😳)

Its a bit dark, with scenes that can be hard to read - please check trigger warnings! Other than that, it feels a bit slow to read but somehow i still couldn't put it down unless i needed to (work, etc). I enjoyed the book, definitely made me feel lots of emotions, and made me want to pick up the next book straight away! I would recommend, though not to all readers and definitely not to anyone under 17.

I had high hopes based on how this book started, but it kind of fizzled. I’ve heard great things about the whole series so hoping that it gets better.
Highlights

It's the arrogance of men, to think so little of women. And it'll be their downfall too.

“Does it really matter if your cage is solid gold when you aren’t allowed to leave it? A cage is a cage, no matter how gilded.”
Chapter 2, Gild, Raven Kennedy

But something... something is coming.
Might that finally be the first character I don't despise? Who knows.

[...], but the past is a powerful thing, [...].

But memory and time aren’t friends. They reject each other, they hurry in opposite directions, pulling the binding taut between them, threatening to snap. They fight, and we inexplicably lose. Memory and time. Always losing one as you go on with the other.

You can pretend a lot of things in life. You can pretend so well that you even start to believe your own deceit. We're all actors; we're all on pedestals with a spotlight shining on us, playing whatever part we need to in order to make it through the day — in order to help ourselves sleep at night.

and then there is me, re-living memories inside my head over and over again to make sure they don’t go away 🥲

Better the devil you know, but what happens when the devils are always new?
