there was lots in this book e.g. magic that made it thought and image provoking. good story but similar to Rangers Apprentice but made for older readers

Aside from the weird back-story for Macros (whose name bothers me as well), which deals with certain religious-legendary themes that seemed unnecessary, it wasn't a bad read. Feist can tell a story even if he's somewhat awkward with wording and emotional depth for characters. 

There's also at least one instance that seems so obviously founded in Tolkien it's hard to get past. 

If it had been terrible, I wouldn't have read it, but I'm glad to be finished with the Riftwar series. I know there are other books in the same world. I probably won't be reading them.
