"What the forge is going on here?" Kianthe said.

"You've been waiting to use that, haven't you?" Reyna pinched the bridge of her nose.

All Reyna and Kianthe want is to open a bookshop that serves tea. Worn wooden floors, plants on every table, firelight drifting between the rafters… all complemented by love and good company. Thing is, Reyna works as one of the Queen’s private guards, and Kianthe is the most powerful mage in existence. Leaving their lives isn’t so easy.

But after an assassin takes Reyna hostage, she decides she’s thoroughly done risking her life for a self-centered queen. Meanwhile, Kianthe has been waiting for a chance to flee responsibility–all the better that her girlfriend is on board. Together, they settle in Tawney, a town that boasts more dragons than people, and open the shop of their dreams.

What follows is a cozy tale of mishaps, mysteries, and a murderous queen throwing the realm’s biggest temper tantrum. In a story brimming with hurt/comfort and quiet fireside conversations, these two women will discover just what they mean to each other… and the world.

I love cosy fantasy books, and this fit the description. It’s kind of like slice of life fantasy, with semi-low stakes. The writing was entertaining, the characters were sweet, and the story was interesting. I literally couldn’t put it down, I’m starting the sequel immediately!

Perfect cozy fantasy to get you out of a reading slump - the characters contained all the little bits and pieces of my favorite fictional characters, with lots of sitcom-style banter and sweet tender moments. I loved the special care the author took when writing/including details of mental health, past traumas, and slow healing and how they looped those things in with love languages and found family. My only complaint about this book was some bits felt a little over explained, like instead of letting the reader connect the dots, the author really laid out those inferences for you.

tldr/ this cozy fantasy felt like a comfort movie - it’s not life altering, but it makes you feel good, it’s easy to rewatch, and I could see myself going back to it again and again.

Can’t Spell Treason Without Tea

A lovely little queer cozy drama taking place in a fantasy world. There's nothing complex here, but folks are queer, there's magic, and also tea and books. Very enjoyable and fast read that I tackled in chunks before bed to lull me to a cozy sleep.

This was a cute fantasy romance book with mid stakes. There were some really good moments in here, but honestly I was more invested with the enemies to lovers side characters than the MCs love story and main plot. Unfortunately, a lot about this book fell short for me. About 50% in I started skim reading because I was growing bored with it. However, I was wanting a relaxed read and this fit the bill.

Fun easy read, featuring a book + tea shop full of plants, what’s not to like?

This is by far one of my favorite reads of the year. I love the amount of detail put into this book and how well the story was told. I picked up the book to read last night and did not want to put it down.

There are so many relateable things happening in this book too and so much character growth. I cannot wait for the next in the series!
