You Can Run

"Be prepared to stay up all night . . ."* Suspense, danger, romance, and family drama converge as a rising star profiler strives to stay one step ahead of the criminal mind--and discovers that her own demons may be the hardest to outrun... Laurel Snow wouldn't call hunting a serial killer a vacation, but with a pile of dead bodies unearthed near her Genesis Valley, WA, hometown, she'll take what she can get. Yet something about this case stirs her in unexpected ways. Like the startling connection she feels to Dr. Abigail Caine, a fiercely intelligent witness with a disturbing knack for making Laurel feel like she has something on her. Then there's Laurel's attraction to Huck Rivers, the fish and wildlife officer guiding her to the crime scene--and into the wilderness... A former soldier and a trained sniper, Huck's thirst for blood is rivaled only by his fierce pursuit of Laurel. He's been burned by love, wounded by the government, and betrayed before, and to say he has trust issues is the ultimate understatement. Plus, he might be closer to this killer than anybody knows... Once in the heart of darkness with Huck, Laurel must negotiate her distracting desire for him, her complex rapport with Abigail--and her mission to find a serial killer among a growing list of suspects and a danger that's far too close to home. So close in fact, Laurel fears she will never find her way back to the woman she once was... *"Rebecca Zanetti takes you on a thrill-ride, pitting characters you love against impossible odds." --New York Times bestselling author Christine Feehan*

FBI agent, Laurel Snow is headed back to her home base, when she gets a call from her mother telling her that her Uncle Carl is a suspect in a local serial killer case. Going back to her hometown of Genesis Valley isn't something Laurel planned on, but now she has no choice. With the help of local wildlife officer, Huck Rivers and his trained dog, they begin to develop suspects in the case as more bodies are found. While the escalating killer seems close to home, Laurel discovers secrets that have been kept from her for years. It appears that Laurel can't trust anyone, not even those closest to her.

You Can Run is the beginning of an intriguing series, introducing several characters and mysteries that will probably be explored at some point. Laurel is an interesting character that we learn about as most of the story is from her perspective, but Huck's POV is also sprinkled throughout the book also. Dr. Abigail Caine is an ambiguous character that is destined to challenge Laurel since it is clear from the start that she is going to be an important figure in this story and possibly ones to come. The episodes between Huck and Laurel just scratch the surface of their budding romance, and I look forward to reading about them in future books. Overall, You Can Run is a great opening chapter to this promising series.

This review was originally posted on Addicted To Romance You Can Run is the first book in the latest series by Rebecca Zanetti. This is a brand new series that is quite different than anything that you have seen from this author yet. This is the type of story that is closer to that of J.D. Robb or Amanda Quick, the romance definitely takes a back seat but it’s different in that it definitely has some sexy scenes in it that those books just don’t contain. So I found it just a unique mix of what this author brings to the table. I can tell that this will be a delicious slow-burn romance in the long run throughout the series. I am not sure what the plans are that Rebecca Zanetti actually has for this series but I am definitely on board with it. Thankfully I think I was in the right mood when I picked this one up, so be aware that romance isn’t the primary focus. From other reviews I had read of this one, I had a feeling it would be like this, so mentally I was ready for it. But I do think readers who have read this author will be quite surprised at the lack of focus of the romance. I can tell though that this author is venturing outside her realm and I had a blast seeing her explore it within this book. You Can Run is a story that starts off with our heroine, Lauren Snow, who is an FBI Agent and has been called back to her hometown when there is a serial killer on the loose and since some of the cases are occurring on government lands, she is called upon to investigate. Laurel hasn’t been the best image for PR of late, and now her boss has ordered her on a mission that she is more than willing to take a chance on. Especially when her uncle is a prime suspect and Laurel is determined to get to the bottom of everything going on. But her partner in crime, the local who will be working with her on the case, is Huck Rivers. The attraction between Huck and Laurel is almost transcendent, but they have a case to solve and young women being killed. They are at odds with each other due to the circumstances, but despite their career differences, there is a chemistry building between them. A relationship between them won’t do any good but a one-night stand isn’t going to be enough to satisfy either of them. As Huck and Laurel explore their feelings, they also embark on an adventure of finding the real murderer and that none of their suspicions will save them in the end…. You Can Run is such a suspenseful read and I had a blast in discovering what this one was all about. I admit that I saw the cover and this author on the cover and I instantly grabbed it up on Netgalley. I didn’t even question it or even glance at the blurb, THAT is how much I have faith in this author. I didn’t doubt that I would enjoy this one and I was correct. Just like with Feehan earlier this year, I took a chance on this romantic mystery/crime thriller and it worked out for me in the end. I am never sure with these types of books that have romance as the backseat how much I will truly enjoy in the end, but somehow they really work for me. Part of it is that I have a soft spot for a well-written mystery and Rebecca Zanetti has such talent in writing it. I NEVER suspected the true killer, she really offered so many unique twists and turns that just flowed so well with other elements of the story. I admit though I NEEDED more with Huck and Laurel because they just worked in so many ways and it should be fun seeing them develop their relationship into something more in future books. Overall I found You Can Run to be a superb story that captured my attention from the very beginning and wouldn’t let go of my attention until the very end. Zanetti has crafted a powder keg of a thriller that is bound to curl the toes of each of its readers in the most delectable of ways.

A brand new thriller series to get 2022 off to a racing start! Laurel Snow is just about the smartest person in the room at all times. She's got degrees on top of degrees, a former child prodigy and a kickbutt FBI agent. Her childhood wan't easy - her mother raised her on her own, never naming her father. She went to college when she was still a young child and she finds the world a chaotic place if she was honest with herself. But when family calls and says that her uncle is being grilled by police over discovery of multiple bodies, she makes her way home to Genesis Valley to see what is actually going on. Snowblood Peak just sounds creepy, the perfect place for a serial killer to haunt. Tasked with setting up a branch office of the FBI in the small town is not going to be easy - the local sheriff is territorial to the extreme, the local church seems to be far too involved in local life and one particular Fish and Wildlife office, Huck Rivers, is far too distracting. Loving this superb new series. Again set in the Pacific Northwest which made me feel right at home as it's like Scotland on steroids LOL. Lauren is complex and a layered character. Huck most definitely has secrets he's keeping and Genesis Valley is a small town that bursts with intrigue. Mostly told from Laurels POV but with chapters devoted to other characters. We meet an array of townsfolk who don't make life easy for Laurel. A certain psychologist is all up in Laurel's business! Twists and turns aplenty and enough suspects that you're never quite sure who you can trust. Although there is romance, it's secondary to the storyline and enhances the tension rather than distracts from it. It's going to be interesting to see how that plays out in further books in the series.
