I had a love/hate relationship with this book. I loved the story and I loved all of the characters but at the same time, I hated the main character. How could she run off on her father who was en route to Ireland after the plane crash? I just kept thinking how selfish she was, with all of the lies piling on. In the end, though, I loved how the story wrapped up. I listened to the audiobook, and I absolutely loved hearing all of the Irish accents.

I want to start by saying this book gave me major travel cravings! It was also one book that was thoroughly difficult to put down once I started it. 

This book started, unlike many other books. The narrator begins by saying she was born twice. When I read this opening, I was instantly interested in what was going to happen, for the narrator was born twice. 

I have always wanted to travel to Ireland, and for the little, while it took to read this book, I felt like I was there. But, it not in the big city way, I got to explore the smaller cities that most people never will, and that is one thing I loved about this book. Yes, it had stereotypes, but it also diminished them in the beginning.

This is one book that I think you will enjoy and immediately want to see it done as a movie!

The protagonists are annoying AF. I wanted to stop halfway through but I couldn’t, thinking I might as well finish the whole book.


The novel could very well be written by a 12 year old. Just wasted my time reading this.

I really enjoyed this book but had some problemes with it. The main character's nickname was "bunny" and was used in so many inappropiate times. I also found that the romance moved a bit to quickly.

I've been a complete and total sucker for any book that takes place in Ireland lately so I was thrilled when I won a copy of this wonderful book on Instagram!

I really enjoyed Clementine's character in this and the swoon-worthy Kieran! Even the side characters of Stephen, Clive, and Siobhan were absolutely amazing. I loved that Rebekah took on a slightly more heady topic and I loved that she incorporated two premies into the book as I am also a premie! Although I was born earlier than the baby in the story.

"Don't worry, teeny-tiny girls grow up to be the mightiest of creatures."

I should have expected the twist towards the end of the book but I hadn't. Which sort of makes me feel like that shouldn't have been something that had gone over my head but the detail hadn't been revealed until that moment. It all clicked into place just like Clementine's memories did.

“If you're going to be lost, there's no friendlier place to get lost in than Ireland.” 

Clearly my wanderlust for Ireland will continue on. Hopefully sometime soon I'll be able to go and visit friends and all of these places that are in The Upside of Falling Down along with other books I've recently read that are set in Ireland. And... maybe even... find my person... That's clearly the hopeless romantic in me.

“Because that's how memories work. They come back to you, knock you down, and beg you to surrender.” 

I'm going to get a little personal here with this part of the review but I just couldn't get this quote out of my head after reading it. I'm one of those people who remembers bits and pieces of her childhood. Honestly, I'm terrified of when I'll actually remember everything especially since I've found that some of my memories are faulty. Whatever it is that my brain has blocked out, I'm afraid that it might tear me apart once I do remember them. But if that happens, I'll just have to remember this wonderful book and remind myself that there's an upside to falling down.
