A great sequel to an already excellent science fiction novel, I could not put it down. Weaving intriguing plot; complex, emotional, human characters; and contemporary experimental physics, Reynolds makes you feel like you were born in the wrong millennium. He makes the future terrifying and curious - machines whose subpersonae induce an experience inspired by the pure terror of sleep paralysis as a defense mechanism against illicit tampering, and skull modifications to assist in the brain cooling needed after the rapid heat generation of nanomachine assisted hyperspeed thought, Reynolds shows you the edges of reality, passion, and fear during an epic, interesting saga.

I'd say the first book is better, but that could have simply been bias influenced by my surprise reaction to such a fresh perspective on science fiction. Please don't misunderstand - this book does NOT hold back from bringing in new explorations into the limits of science and the possibilities of human being, so if that's what you're hoping for, pick it up.

I felt that about 4/5 into the story, it slowed down a bit, but the last of it got me amped to read part 3.
