so technically, i already read this book. like a couple of years ago, when it was still a luke hemmings fan fiction. the way i remember it, i really enjoyed it. actually, it was one of my favourite books on wattpad and i used to anticipate the updates and get all giddy and stuff the second i got the notification. but now that it's an actual novel--idk, i guess i expected more. you can literally see/read that this was a fanfic. the writing wasn't good, there was some plot that made me go /huh?/ and there was soooo much cheese. plus, they had this weird ass tendency to whisper A LOT of stuff.

what bugged me the most was the fact that levi/luke went almost a year without talking and then he's forced to (i loved the reason for his speaking! always have, always will love that scene.) and then all of the sudden he's back to talking like typical. for some reason this seemed totally out of character for me. because he's speaking all. the. time. if he were talking just occasionally--that'd be totally fine and expected. but no, he's throwing words around like nothing ever happened and it bugged the hell out of me. 

this book would've been a dnf, hadn't it been for the fact that i bought it and i somehow feel sentimental over it bc of luke hemmings (which, btw, is also the reason it got 2 stars). finishing it was a huge struggle, but whatever. it's done and now i don't have to pick it up ever again. 

overall: weak-ass writing, weak-ass characters (seriously! they're such cliché characters and so annoying and chirpy and unrealistic, like come on!) ...just a weak-ass book.

(props to the author for getting to publish her fanfic tho. that must've been cool. kinda sad it was such a waste of a book.)

When first hearing about this book, it’s pretty clear that tissues are going to be required. Depression is a major part of our society as we know it, and it’s well known that Ashley Royer really struck a cord with this book.

Levi Harrison—originally Luke Hemmings in the Wattpad fanfiction—has completely shut himself off from everyone. Due to the death of his girlfriend, Levi has refused to talk to anyone or commit to any activities. His mother’s worry is what gets him on a plane from Australia to Maine, USA, where he’ll be staying with his dad.

It isn’t until Chapter Five before Delilah’s POV is introduced. Having already met Delilah, Levi is a little bit off of his rocker. He’s nervous, to say the least. Why would he be nervous? That question has a simple answer; Delilah reminds him of his deceased girlfriend Delia. He ends up tossing his coffee onto the floor and onto Delilah’s white shoes when she and her friend Aidhappeneden to run into Levi and his father Anthony Harrison.

Throughout this book, it is well-known that Levi wants help but is scared to receive it. Ashley did a good job of connecting us to the main character by bringing in examples and elements of someone with a case of depression—be it may, a severe case of depression. An example of this would be a quote found in the prologue.

"The quietest people have the loudest minds, and mine is screaming for help, but my lips don’t move."

This can connect the reader to the character instantly. Someone who may not know what it’s like to experience a mental pain will clearly be introduced through this quote.

All in all, this story was a hit. The plot flowed nicely, the character development for all of the characters was well done, and most importantly, this story strikes emotions farther deep than anyone thought they’d be able to find. For that, I rate this book 5/5 stars.
